HAPPY KIDS DON’T WEAR CLEAN CLOTHES… and least not for long. Don’t get me wrong, I love to see my daughter dressed in sparkly clean clothes, but her desire to eat by herself, climb over everything (including dogs), play with cats and stones just doesn’t keep clothes clean for long. And that’s ok!
She is building her immune system by sticking things in her mouth, developing her senses, confidence, motor skills and much more.
As we know, the immune system is mostly in the gut, so apart from letting her eat sauerkraut once in a while (she loves it) and a few sips of kombucha here and there, along with many breastfeeding sessions day and night contribute to her well being.
We have herbal tea, essential oils and natural remedies to heal whatever needs healing if venturing out left some traces.
On the organic farmers market the farmers take pride in giving her different herbs each week. She would visit the different stalls and walk around with her gifts of basil, lemon balm, peppermint, majoran, sage… whatever they picked in the morning.
Finally, we are again in a place with plenty of clean food. I am blessed to have a wonderful, health conscious mama friend who reminds me to eat and makes nutrient dense food a priority.
I try to allow my daughter to eat a broad range of food. To my surprise, the dishes she ate the most of were very fragrant dishes, even mildly spicy (Asian level mild), sauerkraut, wild boar gulash, paté and recently blood sausage made from black pigs. Some of you may still remember my vegan dishes and cooking updates. Personally, I think vegan food is not for pregnant or postpartum mamas, and neither is it suitable for babies. Seeing my daughter eat intuitively is eye opening.
Back to the mud and dirty clothes. Sometimes, I do think about what other people may think. But then I just tell myself that happy children are dirty, no matter how often we wash their hands and faces. And to keep mommy happy, a friend of mine is gifting me some mud pants! đź’•
How do you see dirt as a mother? Is soil even considered dirt?
