There was a time I thought love meant fixing,
that care meant staying…
even when my soul was starving.

I’ve poured tenderness into people
who didn’t have the capacity to receive it,
mistaking their silence for depth,
their charm for safety.

I didn’t know the difference between being chosen
and being seen.
Between intimacy
and emotional labor.

This is what happens when you’re praised for being strong,
for holding it all together,
for being the soft place.

There’s a particular ache I know well
the strong woman who was never asked how she was doing.
The one who learned to hold it all…
the grief, the rage, the legacy, the lineage.
She became dependable. Capable.
Invisible.

I hold space for her.

Not the version she had to become,
but the voice buried beneath survival.
The sound she swallowed to keep the peace.
