Dr Hoh Sek Tien is an Eye Surgeon (Ophthalmologist) practising at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital and Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore.
He subspecialises in cataract surgery and glaucoma surgery, and also provides care in general and comprehensive ophthalmology.
As the first ophthalmologist in Singapore and South-East Asia to use the Optical Coherence Tomography for evaluating optic nerve damage, Dr Hoh is a recognised authority in the field of glaucoma.
Dr Hoh graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1991. He rose through the ranks as Chief Resident, Glaucoma Fellow and Consultant at the Singapore National Eye Centre before leaving for private practice in 2008.
Dr Hoh is a frequent invited speaker on subjects related to glaucoma and has published over 80 scientific papers and abstracts since 1990.
He has sat on the Board of Reviewers of international journals such as the American Journal of Ophthalmology and the British Journal of Ophthalmology and is a key opinion leader in Glaucoma in the Asia-Pacific region.

Glaucoma is a group of related eye disorders, characterized by loss of vision secondary to progressive damage to the optic nerve of the eye.

In many cases, glaucoma may be asymptomatic in the early stages.

Dr Por graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1997 with honours and began ophthalmic training in the United Kingdom in 1999.
While in the UK, he trained at the renowned Manchester Royal Eye Hospital.
He then returned to Singapore in 2001 and was appointed registrar at the Singapore National Eye Centre.
Dr Por completed his training in ophthalmology in 2006.
He subsequently trained as a fellow under Professor Donald Tan of the Singapore National Eye Centre in Cornea and External Eye Diseases as well as Refractive Surgery, becoming expert in LASIK, Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) surgery, as well as corneal surgery including various forms of corneal transplantation such as anterior and posterior lamellar grafting.
Dr Por’s strengths also include phacoemulsification cataract surgery. In accordance with his training in refractive surgery, Dr Por places great importance in the refractive outcomes of his cataract patients so that for them, spectacle wear is minimised after cataract surgery.
He is also trained as a comprehensive ophthalmologist and has extensive experience treating other eye diseases.

We kick off the new year by featuring one of our very experienced ophthalmologist, 𝐃𝐫. 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐚 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧.
Dr. Chan is currently practising with a group of colleagues at Eye Surgeons @ Novena, a renowned multi-subspecialty ophthalmology practice in Singapore.
Dr. Chan commenced her ophthalmology training in 1993 and spent 21 years of her career in the public healthcare sector at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC), where she was the Head of the Refractive Surgery Service and Senior Consultant of the Cornea and External Eye Disease Services.
After moving to the private healthcare sector, she continued offering her expertise to SNEC as a Visiting Senior Consultant for seven years, where she proctored and trained young ophthalmologists in their various stages of learning.
Her years of expertise makes her one of the most experienced ophthalmologists in Cornea and Refractive Surgery in the region, and she is one of the earliest to have performed bladeless LASIK, Small Incision Lenticule Extraction (SMILE) and lamellar corneal transplantation in Singapore.
Dr. Chan is renowned internationally for her work with the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) and Asia-Pacific Academy of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (APACRS).

Dr Heng Li Wei is a Consultant Ophthalmologist, subspecializing in 𝙊𝙥𝙝𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙢𝙞𝙘 𝙋𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙘 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙍𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙎𝙪𝙧𝙜𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙀𝙮𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙙𝙨, 𝙇𝙖𝙘𝙧𝙞𝙢𝙖𝙡 𝙎𝙮𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙢 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙊𝙧𝙗𝙞𝙩.
She is also well-versed in General Ophthalmology, dealing with common conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, dry eyes etc.
She completed her medical school education at National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2003, and was conferred the Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) degree in 2008.
She attained Fellowship with The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (Ophthalmology) in 2012 and is also a Fellow with the Academy of Medicine Singapore.
Dr Heng was awarded the Singapore Ministry of Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) scholarship in 2013 and subsequently underwent a 12-months clinical fellowship at the McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. She completed her Fellowship in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive and Orbital Surgery under the mentorship of Clinical Assistant Professor Yasser Khan and Professor John Harvey.
Beyond work, she is an avid trekker, and an enthusiast in dog sports and dog training.

𝐆𝐥𝐚𝐮𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐚 is one of the leading causes of blindness worldwide.
If left untreated, it can cause irreversible loss of vision.
Hence, it is important to undergo regular eye examination, so that any eye diseases can be detected early and receive treatment (if necessary).

The photos show 𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐰 𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐬 detected on routine eye examination, as evidenced by the anterior segment Mirante OCT.
In this case, a prophylactic 𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐲 was performed, which can help to prevent the development of acute angle closure glaucoma, and can also help to reduce the risk of progression to primary angle closure glaucoma.

Welcome 𝐃𝐫 𝐘𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐨 𝐎𝐧𝐧 on board at Eye Surgeons @ Novena and Eye Surgeons @ Napier!
Dr Yong has been in private practice for 6 years, and we are very excited to announce that he is now a part of our team of experienced ophthalmologists at Eye Surgeons since 15th October 2021.
𝘼𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝘿𝙧 𝙔𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙎𝙝𝙖𝙤 𝙊𝙣𝙣:
Dr Yong is currently a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Eye Surgeons Novena and Eye Surgeons Napier.
His clinical interests are in phacoemulsification cataract surgery (including complex cataracts), and vitreoretinal conditions such as retinal detachments, vitreomacular interface disorders (macular holes and epiretinal membranes), medical and surgical management of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), retinal vein occlusions (RVOs) and diabetic eye disease.
He is also trained as a comprehensive ophthalmologist and has extensive experience treating other eye diseases.
He is currently a member of the Surgical Vitreoretina subcommittee of the College of Ophthalmologists, Academy of Medicine Singapore, and also Medical Advisory Board member at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital. Dr Yong is fluent in English and Mandarin, and is conversational in several dialects (Cantonese, Hokkien, Hakka).
