The Cat Stretch, a core component of the STOTT PILATES® Matwork repertoire, is utilized primarily as a warm-up sequence to promote spinal articulation and mobility across all segments of the vertebral column.

Some pointers to take note:
- Ensure hands are under the shoulders and knees under the hips
- Maintain spine's natural curve
- Ensure the movement flows sequentially from the tailbone to the cervical spine
- Return slowly and with control
- Align breathing with movement

A valuable exercise for everyday movement, consider incorporating Cat Stretch into your daily routine ☺️

For years, Vanessa navigated the demanding mental and physical challenges of the corporate sector. She initially turned to Pilates as a necessity—a conscious tool for stress relief and a way to cope with the daily hustle. It quickly became much more than a coping mechanism.

​Pilates became her deliberate way to slow down, as it was the only time sue truly moved with intention and felt that deep connection between her body and mind. ​Realising her passion, Vanessa decided to pursue rigorous training and becoming a certified instructor.

​Today, she places a heavy emphasis on teaching clients how to move with awareness and finding purpose in moving with intention.

The Obliques Roll Back is a powerful exercise for strengthening the obliques and improving spinal articulation and control. Even though it's an exercise that can be done in the comforts of your own space, there are some key pointers to take note to ensure you perform it effectively and safely.


Sitting tall, maintaining a stable pelvis, rotate from the waist, articulate your spine when rolling back, keep arms long, shoulders relaxed


Over-rotating, lifting your hips off the mat, rotating from the hips, rotating with the arms, plopping into lower back, holding your breath, craning your neck forward, shrugging your shoulders
