This is so true. Whether you are struggling with a physical demand (like learning a new yoga pose) or you’re mentally struggling with life, perhaps life has dealt you unjust and unfair cards - wherever you are right now, you have to believe in yourself and know that you will get through the hard times. This weeks blog is taking a look at the resolutions we set ourselves and how we can help ourselves to keep them (along with always believing!) Have a wonderful weekend everyone, and Eid Mubarak to those celebrating Hari Raya!

Teaching outside has its challenges (rain/no shade/biting ants ☔️ ☀️ 🐜) but nothing quite beats the feeling of being in the elements and at one with nature. Practice almost feels without boundaries. Read this week’s blog for Prasi’s insights on the boundaries we may set ourselves both on and off the mat - link in bio. Have a wonderful weekend!

Have you ever acted in a way which you’ve later regretted?🗣

This week our blog is a little different, the wonderful Prasi has written a beautiful piece about the journey of self discovery when things don’t go to plan. 🦋

The yamas and niyamas provide us with powerful tools to help us look at the way we interact with ourselves and the outside world. We are all human and these things happen. Rather than beat yourself up, be kind and compassionate to yourself and try and figure out why. 🫂

The power of yoga: this video is from day 12 of 15 of our (myself and four year old twins) hotel quarantine in Singapore last year. Each morning I did a vinyasa countdown for the number of days left to go (I did the same for our 10 day U.K. quarantine in the summer). Taking this time (barely a few minutes) meant I had the energy and bigger perspective to be there for the boys - I could literally feel the days counting down. Don’t get me wrong, there were some low points(!) but for the most part this practice helped carry us mentally and physically through. That one vinyasa was slow and felt soooo good!

The truth about being a predominant pitta; I’m constantly challenging myself and wanting to level-up. I think if pitta were an asana it would definitely be a handstand 🤸 I’ve been practicing the handstand for years, still so much to learn and develop but I must remember to balance my fire and take it easy on myself and my body! Read our latest blog for info on how to balance a pitta dosha using nutrition.

This week our blog focuses on balancing the pitta dosha with nutrition. No this does not mean pitta bread 🥙 😂 If you are:
Highly motivated ✔️
Natural leader ✔️
Sometimes suffer with stress/anger ✔️
May suffer with headaches and upset stomach ✔️
…..the chances are you are predominant pitta 🔥 there are ways to balance pitta through nutrition - grains like oats, non dairy milk and seeds like pumpkin can all play a role in calming the fire! I am definitely a predominant pitta (just the red hair alone gives it away 👩🏻‍🦰)! What did you have for breakfast? Or did you skip it all together? What we eat has a huge affect on how we feel physically and mentally - it makes sense - the energy that goes in impacts the energy that goes out! Stay tuned for our full blog release on Friday!

It’s good to be back! Last year between travel, quarantine and the 300 hour training I didn’t have a lot of time to teach (and my practice also had to take a bit of a back seat). It feels so good to be back teaching and practicing again. Always grateful for the opportunities to meet and teach wonderful people and to learn from the fellow teachers at ._

📖 Learn something this Friday!
🧘‍♂️
It is so easy to become misguided by the importance of physical postures in yoga. Read this week’s blog to learn more about the philosophy of yoga and how poses (asanas) are only a small part of what yoga is. It will change the way you think about yoga and your approach to life as a whole.

Love the Journey Not the Pose - Navasana (boat pose)🛶
⭐️ Absolute essential asana for building core strength and an absolute killer to hold!
⭐️ Practice first with knees bent and holding the back of the thighs, progress to reaching arms in front and then trying to straighten legs whilst keeping spine straight.
⭐️ My journey continues as I try to keep the spine straight and close the gap between torso and thigh.

What are Mudras and why do we practice them in yoga? 🤚👌
”Mudra” translates to “sign” or “gesture” 🪧 In yoga we use Mudras to stimulate different parts of the body and affect energy flows. The most common Mudra used in yoga classes is Chin Mudra (where we touch the thumb and index finger together). Whilst sitting crossed legged (in sukhasana or easy pose) 🧘 the back of the hand rests on the knee so the palm faces up. Of course this can be practiced in other poses such as dancers pose or reverse warrior. Chin Mudra helps with insomnia while also elevating energy and stamina. It also improves concentration and memory power. When a person practices it regularly, it can help with problems such as anger, depression, stress and anxiety and can help in improving our body's sleep pattern. Give it a try!
