This is Beli (in Slovenian, bela means “white”). We believe it is the perfect name for him.
Beli was found in another country on the street with a fractured femur. The people who rescued him told us that the injury was very severe. He underwent three surgeries, and due to the bone healing process, the limb is now a few centimeters shorter. As a result, he developed hyperextension in the hock joint.
Since Beli is a very young, playful, and active dog, we made him a mobility device. We are not entirely sure how to name this mobility aid, as it falls somewhere between an orthosis and a prosthesis. Perhaps “orthoprosthesis”? Do you have a suggestion?

Hyperextension of the carpal (wrist) joint is a very common condition and injury in dogs, which may result from sudden, incorrect movements or age-related degenerative changes. In such cases, the ligaments of the carpal joint become overstretched or torn.
In recent months, we have encountered many such cases. A good treatment option, particularly when the animal’s health status does not allow for surgery, is the use of orthoses. Look at the before-and-after images.

He has overcome a serious infection that resulted in an extensive deformity causing wounds while walking 🤕We’re thrilled to share that today he has been fitted with two custom-mase orthoses to aid in his comfort and mobility. Every little step is a victory for this brave bird! 🦾
