Basics of a successful action plan

• It is something you want to do
• It is achievable (something you can expect to be able to accomplish that week)
• It is action-specific
• It answers the questions What?, How much?, When? And How often?
• You are sure that you will complete your entire plan at a level of 7 or higher on a scale from 0 = not at all suer to 10 = absolutely sure

What is it that you would like to achieve this week?

Success improves health

Obviously, you will feel better when you exercise, eat well, keep regular sleeping hours, stop smoking, and take time to relax. But regardless of the behaviour that is altered, there is evidence that the feelings of self-confidence and control over your life that come from making any successful change improve your health.

Focus on what you can do rather than what you cannot do. You are more likely to lead a more positive and happier life.

Problem solving has several steps that are not far removed from finding solutions in the manager's job.

1. Identify the problem - is the most important and difficult step. E.g. if your muscles are sore or stiff, you refuse to take the stairs. Only the real cause might be your fear of falling.
2. Make a list of solutions - you can do it yourself or ask for help. The important thing is to describe your problem correctly.
3. Choose one solution and try it out - new activities can be challenging, so don't be discouraged by the first failure.
4. Check the results - how are you doing in solving the problem. If the first solution "worked" right away, you're done 😊
5. If you still have a problem, try another solution from your list.
6. Use other resources (friends, family, members of the healthcare team, health coach) to help you with other ideas.
7. If you have tried all the solutions and none of them have helped you solve your problem, it is possible that your problem does not have a suitable solution for now. This doesn't mean it won't work in the future. It's just that now is not the right time.

Managing one's own health is not very different from being a manager in a company or a household.
You need to do the following:
- decide what you want to achieve
- look for ways to achieve that goal
- develop a short-term action plan to achieve it
- implement the action plan
- check your results
- make changes as necessary
- reward yourself for your success

Like any other skill, self-management can be learned through practice. This is just a small sample of how it starts.
Do you feel like a manager of your own health?

Perhaps the most important skill of all is learning to respond to your illness on an ongoing basis to solve day-to-day problems. After all, you live with your condition 24/7; your doctor sees you only a tiny portion of this time. This means that you must learn to manage your condition.

Self-Management Skills that I can help you build and strengthen so that you are in control of your health:

• Problem solving and responding as your disease gets better and worse
• Maintaining a healthy lifestyle with regular exercise, healthy eating, sound sleep habits, and stress management
• Managing common symptoms
• Making decisions about when to seek medical help and what treatments to try
• Working effectively with your health care team
• Using medications safely and effectively while minimizing side effects
• Finding and using community resources
• Talking about your illness with family and friends
• Adapting social activities

How people change or why they don’t change has been intriguing researchers for years. Here’s one not-so-secret statement they have learned: Most people change by themselves, when they are ready.
Physicians, counselors, spouses, self-help groups coax, persuade, nag, or assist people to change their lifestyle and habits. But most people change when they are ready. And when this happens everything they’ve ever wanted comes easily and naturally, seemingly without effort.
---
Sounds easy enough, right? But how can you become ready sooner? How can you learn what you can do? This is where I come in. Health coaching helps you achieve what you want earlier. We work on doing the right things, taking the right steps at the right time. We build your confidence in your ability to change. We prepare an action plan that you can easily follow and make sure you succeed.

Drop me a line if this is something you would like to work on. I’d be happy to be your guide.

I am often approached by women with chronic illnesses and asked how it is possible to live a healthy life with chronic health problems.
What happens in the body when we have a chronic illness? People experience fatigue and lose physical strength and endurance. In addition, it can cause emotional difficulties, triggering feelings of frustration, anger, anxiety or helplessness.
Health means mental and physical well-being, and a healthy life is one that strives for that well-being. Therefore, living a healthy lifestyle with a chronic illness is about overcoming the physical, mental and emotional problems caused by the illness.
The challenge is to learn to function at your best regardless of the difficulties that life brings.
The goal is to accomplish the things you want to do and to enjoy life.
If you want to achieve this but don't know how to do it, get in touch. I can help you with that.
