However Paederus Sabaeus commonly known by it numerous names such as Champion, Nairobi fly, Acid fly, Nyerere and Rove beetle. Is a beetle that has a corrosive substance known as Pederin. This substance when get contacted with skin causes chemical burn and can eventually result to a skin irritation disorder called Paederus dermatitis. The toxin is release when the beetle is crushed against the skin, often at night when sleepers inadvertently brush the insect from the face and neck.
But this beetle can be prevented from and get extincted from your surrounding. Bellow are some of the measures to be taken into consideration.....
1.Base on the fact that Pederin(toxin) can only get the skin irritated when one crushed or slap the beetle on the body surface. Avoid handling or crushing the beetle.
2. Blown off or encourage the beetle to work onto a piece of paper and then remove.
3. Wash immediately with soap and water the area of contact.
4. Door should be kept closed and window should also be kept in good repair to help reduce entry of this insect into building.
5.Since champions are attracted to light, these should be switched off near areas where people sleep.
Finally base on studies and research, Paederus dermatitis can be treated with oral antihistamine, topical steroid cream and an antibiotic pill to prevent concurrent bacteria infection.
