SIGNS OF LABOUR: WHEN TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL
As your due date approaches, it's important to recognize the signs of true labour and know when it’s time to head to the hospital.
Key Signs of Labour:
✅ Regular Contractions
- Contractions become stronger, longer, and more frequent (every 5 minutes, lasting 45–60 seconds).
- They don't go away with rest or movement.
✅ Water Breaking (Rupture of Membranes)
- A sudden gush or steady trickle of fluid from the va**na.
- Go to the hospital, especially if the fluid is greenish or foul-smelling.
✅ Bloody Show
- A thick, blood-tinged discharge as the cervix begins to dilate.
✅ Lower Back and Abdominal Pain
- Persistent cramping or pressure, different from usual discomfort.
✅ Pelvic Pressure
- Feeling like the baby is pushing down, especially if you’ve had a baby before.
✅ Cervical Dilation (Checked by your provider)
Go to the hospital immediately if:
- You have contractions every 5 minutes for 1 hour (for first-time moms)
- Your water breaks
- You have heavy bleeding
- You notice reduced baby movement
- You feel unbearable pain or pressures
NOTE:Have your hospital bag ready from 36 weeks. Always consult your healthcare provider if unsure.
