DKA is one of the most common endocrine emergencies — yet one of the most poorly understood in clinical practice.

Many clinicians focus only on glucose levels…
But DKA is actually a triad of:
→ Insulin deficiency
→ Ketone production
→ Severe dehydration

And if you miss the physiology, you will make critical mistakes:
❌ Starting insulin before correcting potassium
❌ Stopping insulin when glucose normalizes
❌ Ignoring anion gap
❌ Overusing bicarbonate

In reality, DKA management is a stepwise physiological correction:
1. Restore circulation (fluids)
2. Stabilize potassium
3. Stop ketogenesis (insulin)
4. Monitor and guide using anion gap

In this “Teaching Master Version”, I’ve broken DKA into:
🔹 ER → ICU management flow
🔹 Decision-making tables (what + why + risk)
🔹 Case-based clinical thinking
🔹 Common pitfalls every resident should know

This is not just notes — this is how you should think while managing DKA at bedside.

Save this. Teach this. Use this in real patients.

🧠 HEALTH AWARENESS:

What’s Really in Energy Drinks?

We all take them when we feel tired, during long drives, late-night studying, or that 3 PM slump. But the “light and fresh energy” comes from strong stimulants like caffeine, guarana, taurine, high-dose B-vitamins, and sugar or artificial sweeteners.
While it give temporary mental focus, physical energy, and a quick mood boost, it is DANGEROUS to the KIDNEYS. It can stress on the kidneys. The CAFFEINE(active substance) in it causes DEHYDRATION, the drinks are highly acidic, and frequent use can lead to loss of important minerals like calcium and magnesium. In heavy consumption, this may even increase the risk of kidney problems.

MY ADVICE IS SIMPLE: don’t quit completely, just minimise it.

IF YOU STILL TAKE ENERGY DRINKS:
• Drink enough water after taking one
• Don’t make it a daily habit (limit to 1–2 times a week)
• Avoid drinking it on an empty stomach
• Never mix it with alcohol.

WARNING ⚠️
Protect your kidneys. That small energy drinks, is not stronger than your health.

Thank you for taking the time to read and prioritize your health.

Cotton swabs may seem helpful for cleaning ears, but they can actually cause more harm than good. 👂

When a cotton swab is inserted into the ear canal, it often pushes earwax deeper inside instead of removing it. This can lead to wax buildup, blockage, and discomfort. In some cases, excessive pressure may irritate the ear canal or even damage the eardrum.

Earwax plays an important role in protecting the ear by trapping dust, bacteria, and small particles. Normally, the ear cleans itself naturally as wax slowly moves outward.

For safe ear care, it’s generally recommended to clean only the outer ear and avoid inserting objects deep into the ear canal.
