Cattle raiding assault leaves 9 dead in Tonj North County, Warrap State

The armed youth, suspected to have come from the neighboring Unity State, allegedly killed 9 people and wounded 9 others in Tonj North County, Warrap State.

The incident occurred in the Kongor area's grazing land on Saturday afternoon, where the raiders were reported to have taken an unspecified herd of cattle and abducted young girls and children during the assault.

When contacted, the Warrap State Minister of Information, Hon. Mamer Bath Marol, said he is not aware of the alleged incident, adding that he would first check the information with the commissioner of Tonj North County.

Efforts by the Aweil News Agency to reach the Tonj North County Commissioner for comment were unsuccessful, as his phone is off.

There has been an occurrence of cattle raiding between the bordering communities of Warrap and Unity States, which threatens the security between the two states.

“I want the people of Warrap to learn from the people of Mading Aweil. The people of Mading Aweil do not fight and this does not require us to go to school or university to learn how to stop fighting among ourselves. These are things we need to see and hear.

If you do not understand, go to Mading Aweil and see for yourself. They do not fight among themselves; they only resolve issues through words. But in Warrap State, people always resort to fighting.

We need to learn from the people of Mading Aweil. This does not need to be learned from the University of Juba or Nairobi University, but from Aweil itself. The people of Mading Aweil have stopped fighting; when issues arise, they discuss them with words and do not fight among themselves.”

South Sudan Police Officer Alleges Poor Pay, Hunger After Bor Mission

A young South Sudan Police officer identified as Samuel Manut has accused authorities of neglecting personnel deployed on a recent mission from Bor to Poktap in Duk County, Jonglei State.

In a social media post, the officer said police endured severe hardship during the operation, with several colleagues killed in Pajut and Poktap and others injured. However, upon return, officers reportedly received only 6,000 SSP each.

The officer further claimed that injured personnel have not received medical treatment and that officers returned hungry, with no food provided during or after the mission.

The post directly criticized the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and senior leadership over poor welfare and support. Authorities have not yet commented on the allegations.
