💰 Financial Wellness Session – 25 October
Hosted by Unite Against Depression

At Unite Against Depression, we believe that financial wellness is emotional wellness. 💚 This week’s engaging session focused on smart money management — helping young people learn how to plan, spend, and save in ways that promote mental peace and reduce financial stress.

We discussed practical tips like separating needs from wants, staying loyal to a budget, and avoiding peer influence when making financial decisions. Participants shared that poor money habits often lead to anxiety, guilt, and stress — proving how deeply finances affect our mental state.

💬 The biggest takeaway? Managing money wisely is not just about saving — it’s about maintaining balance, confidence, and peace of mind. 🌱

Cheers to Another Successful Session 🙌

Saturday 18 October we had just another session. Ideas were shared dreams were ignited and mostly the power of resilience and determination 💪 was restored. Main topic was... LIGHT INTHE DARKNESS... Basically addressing the power of speaking 🔊 out and avoiding silence. Teamwork was highly promoted and spoke against the spirit of isolation 🫥. We not saying share your problems with others by force but we saying take your time to sit in the mist of different people, listen to them speaking and share your ideas 💡 😉 where possible. This doesn't matter address your challenges but make your mind even more relaxed and flexible to think positively. This exercise will see you picking up some few positive things, discover your hidden abilities and mostly keep your mind away from the things that kills your hopes slowly.

Great appreciation goes to Macmillan Education Eswatini for the support 👏, the insetives you gave us will surely develop our knowledge and problem solving skills. We still inviting other stakeholders to join us, or support our youth as they gather for something positive and life changing.

JOIN THE MOVEMENT, JOIN THE INITIATIVES!!!

Mental Health YINDZA BAYETFU SONKHE. Infact it's a pandemic that doesn't only require awareness but also actions 👌. It's a battle you can't win in silence and in isolation, you need to talk to someone 😉 or be around people who wiĺl you up. Gather with people once in a while, listen to how they survive, listen to what they do daily to counter daily stressors.
Share your thoughts, share your feelings if the environment permits. Even if you think you are not stressed or suffering from any mental health challenges but just gather with other people. This helps you grow as a human, it makes you stay strong 💪 🤘 and keeps your mind active. You can't even say confidently you free from mental health challenges because we live with people, interact with different personalities, engage in daily activities that needs us to stay active.

Making a Statement, creating awareness and Advocacy within tertiary institutions is important. They go through a lot in silence 🔕 😔 because of the stigma around Mental Health issues.
Tertiary becomes a defining stage for most of our students, it's where they either break or make it. The choices they make are forever tattooed with their lives and they shape their future. The consequences of the actions, decisions they take is what they will be facing for the rest of their lives SO being present and supportive ease the pressure and often leads to constructive decisions and positive ones. Academics are challenging, social life has it's influence, the background has its own pressure which often leads to risky behaviours and engagements due to that pressure, sadly they face it alone. Lecturers wants good grades, parents needs good results, society wants good presentation but the economy, the environment and resources available are favourable to sustain that. The influence is so effective but is it the right one? Most students come in varsity sober and leave as drug addicts/drunkards, where did they go wrong? Who cares to track it down as we all looking to capitalise on their mistakes? Girls come in with maximum 3 body counts but leave with a number bigger than their ages, What have we done as a society apart from judging them? Do we know what they are going through? Boys are now drowning into substance abuse and toxic habits and some turning into violent souls, They are given names but do we know the agony they go through when they are alone intheir rooms?
We call upon a supportive society, with minimum judgements and maximum solutions. A society that is more into helping than waiting to comment when the train 🚆 has crushed. Let's not leave them alone. Let's not assume that they got it all under control and mostly let us not assume varsity students have got it covered or they are spoiled or something. They are lonely souls with so much intheir tables. They lost souls awaiting to be found, unfortunately negatives find them more than the positives because bad influence is always available yet good influence is sold.
