Dr Sam is the owner and founder of Inter Island Medical Services and Grace Bay Medical Intergrative Health Centre. A 29 year veteran and Belonger of the Turks and Caicos he is well known in the community. His initial training was at St Thomas’s Hospital in London, part of London University. St Thomas’s Hospital is recognised as one of England’s leading Medical Schools with a long tradition of training pragmatic and practical physicians. Dr Sam has a wealth of experience over a wide range of medical disciplines. His skill sets are particularly suited to this small island environment. Always an innovator he was the first doctor to introduce ultrasound to the TCI over 25 years ago. As a trained Dive and Aviation physician is able to advise about sickness and travel. Dr Sam is also known as the “go to” person for the repair of facial lacerations. There are many people in town and abroad who are “scar less” due to his care and attention when repairing these injuries. Most recently his attention has turned to the importance of the gut and its importance in health and disease. As he is quick to point out; “If you are 5 trillion human cells and 50 trillion bacteria, who collectively posses 100 times more genetic material than your own genome and most of whom live in your gut, you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to recognise that they influence your health.” His interest in this, the Microbiome, has led him back to school at Queen Mary, University of London for his second Masters degree in Gastroenterology and study of this important new area of medicine. Dr Jo is no stranger to the TCI having first visited as a medical student on her elective over ten years ago. After completing her training as a British General Practitioner (GP or Generalist Family Physician) in the North of England, including a year in Rheumatology and Sports Medicine, and after achieving extended training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology leading to her Diploma in the same disciplines, Dr Jo returned to the TCI two years ago. Jo is extremely popular and made her mark quickly, building a large following amongst every section of the community. Possessing a dry northern English sense of humour (much appreciated by all) and a similar pragmatic approach to medicine and healthcare as “the Boss” she compliments and adds a wide range of skill sets, and a lot of fun, to the clinic. Now that she is a proud mother of a healthy baby boy her experience as a doctor trained in providing community paediatric care has been enhanced by her experience as a mother. Dr Ana is a Graduate of the University of Medical Sciences Ernesto Guevara de la Serna, Cuba. She is the newest member of the team joining Grace Bay Medical Center in 2013 following working in both Cuba and most recently Guyana. Ana is a soft spoken individual trained in Family and Integrated Medicine. As a team member she also possesses a wide range of skills including Obstetric ultrasound, repair of minor lacerations and the treatment of injuries, as well as her family medicine/paediatric medicine skills. As a native Spanish speaker (fluent in English) Dr Ana has assisted many of our visitors from the region, as well as Central and South America. Dealing with a physician who speaks your own language makes medical consultations both easier and allows for a level of comfort and reassurance no easily achieved in a foreign language.

"Inter Island Medical Services LTD DBA Grace Bay Medical continues to offer neuropsychological services through the paediatric and family practice units.

Our neuropsychologist, Dr. Daniela Taua-Hernandez, provides assessments covering childhood development; autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, dyslexia and IQ along with screening for possible learning differences.

Adult services include neurocognitive screening in particular in regards to the detection of early cognitive decline/dementia and the impact of various aging disorders including Alzheimer screening.

Recent advances in the treatment of all types of dementia mean that screening is worthwhile as current evidence supports the idea that early intervention can slow and possibly halt the progression of the process.

Please feel free to discuss these services at your next appointment with your doctor.
