Transforming Lives with CP: Meet xStep

For decades, individuals with cerebral palsy (CP) have faced a frustrating reality: limited therapy options that focus on managing symptoms rather than addressing the underlying neurological challenges. Physical therapy, orthotics, surgeries, and medications have all played a role—but meaningful, long-term improvements have remained out of reach for many. That’s about to change.

ImagineWalk, in partnership with SpineX Inc., is proud to introduce xStep—a non-invasive, home-based neuromodulation device designed to empower individuals with CP and improve their mobility and quality of life.

What makes xStep different?
Unlike traditional devices or surgeries, xStep delivers a customized, variable electrical signal that targets the spinal neurons responsible for movement, coordination, and posture. This stimulation promotes better communication between the brain, spinal cord, and muscles—essentially retraining the nervous system to function more efficiently.

Clinical research has shown promising results in children with CP, including:
• Improved walking and balance
• Greater trunk and postural control
• Reduced muscle spasticity
• Enhanced coordination and motor function

xStep is:
• Non-invasive – No surgery or implants required
• Home-use ready – Designed for daily life and rehabilitation
• Tailored to neurodevelopmental conditions – Not just another generic stim device

Backed by published clinical studies and real-life success stories, xStep offers new possibilities for individuals with CP—especially those who’ve been told progress has plateaued.

🌍 Global shipping begins August 2025

CP Explained: What is Cerebral Palsy?

Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a group of neurological disorders that affect movement, muscle tone, and posture. It results from abnormal brain development or damage to the developing brain, often occurring before birth. While CP is a lifelong condition, early diagnosis and intervention can significantly improve quality of life.

🔍 Types of CP:
Spastic CP – Stiff muscles and awkward movements (most common)
Dyskinetic CP – Involuntary, uncontrolled movements
Ataxic CP – Poor coordination and balance
Mixed CP – Combination of symptoms from different types

🧬 Common Causes:
Lack of oxygen to the brain during birth
Premature birth or low birth weight
Infections during pregnancy
Head injuries in early childhood

👶 Early Signs to Watch For:
Delays in reaching motor milestones (e.g., sitting, crawling)
Muscle stiffness or floppiness
Poor coordination or involuntary movements
Difficulty with swallowing or eye movement

Introducing xStep
Developed by SpineX, xStep is an innovative, non-invasive device designed to retrain the nervous system and promote natural, voluntary movement. Using targeted electrical stimulation, xStep awakens and supports the body’s innate movement patterns—without surgery or medication.

This breakthrough device is transforming rehabilitation for individuals with CP and other motor disorders, helping children and adults improve mobility, balance, and independence. Backed by cutting-edge science, xStep offers new hope and possibilities for families affected by neurological challenges.

Imagine a future where movement is possible again—with xStep.

Can a non-invasive device change the outlook for children with cerebral palsy?

In this in-depth interview, Henning Kalwa, CEO of ImagineHealth, speaks with Dr. Parag Gad, Co-Founder and CEO of SpineX, about the development and clinical potential of xStep—a spinal cord neuromodulation device being explored for use in individuals with Cerebral Palsy (CP).

With a focus on early outcomes and lived experiences, this conversation sheds light on how xStep may help improve mobility, engagement, and overall quality of life for children living with CP.

Cerebral Palsy: Moving Beyond Management to Real Progress

Cerebral palsy (CP) is one of the most common motor disabilities in childhood—but it lasts a lifetime. For decades, treatment has largely focused on managing symptoms: physical therapy, medications to reduce muscle stiffness, orthotics, surgeries, and assistive devices. While these approaches offer important support, they often fall short of addressing the root neurological causes. Progress can be slow, and independence remains out of reach for many individuals.

🚫 Traditional solutions often:
Focus on compensation rather than restoration
Require lifelong, intensive therapy
Offer limited gains in mobility and daily function

But what if we could go further—restoring function, not just managing symptoms?

Introducing xStep: A Breakthrough in Neurorehabilitation
Enter xStep, a revolutionary non-invasive therapy developed by SpineX Inc., pioneers in spinal neuromodulation. Designed to retrain the nervous system and promote natural movement, xStep is changing the way we think about CP and other neurological conditions like SCI and MS.

How xStep works:
xStep uses non-invasive spinal cord stimulation to enhance communication between the brain and body. It’s a wearable therapy, used from the comfort of home, that helps improve:
✅ Walking and motor control
✅ Bladder and bowel function
✅ Overall independence and confidence

Recognized with two FDA Breakthrough Device designations and the 2024 HealthTech Innovation of the Year Award, SpineX is redefining what’s possible for people living with chronic neurological challenges. At ImagineWalk, we’re proud to partner with SpineX to bring this groundbreaking technology to more people around the world. Because everyone deserves access to real solutions—not just coping mechanisms.

Let’s Talk About Cerebral Palsy: Breaking the Myths & Raising Awareness

Cerebral palsy (CP) is a lifelong condition that affects movement, muscle tone, and posture. But despite being one of the most common physical disabilities in children, CP is still surrounded by myths and misconceptions. Here are some of the most common ones — and the truth behind them:

❌ Myth 1: CP is a disease.
✅ Truth: CP is not contagious and not a disease. It’s a neurological condition caused by brain damage or abnormal brain development, usually before or during birth.

❌ Myth 2: Everyone with CP has a mental disability.
✅ Truth: CP affects physical movement and coordination, not intelligence. Many people with CP have average or above-average cognitive abilities.

❌ Myth 3: CP gets worse over time.
✅ Truth: CP is non-progressive — the brain injury doesn't worsen. However, symptoms may change over time, which is why ongoing therapy and support are important.

❌ Myth 4: People with CP can’t live independently.
✅ Truth: Many individuals with CP live full, independent lives — attending school, working, traveling, and having families.

❌ Myth 5: Everyone with CP uses a wheelchair.
✅ Truth: CP affects everyone differently. Some people walk independently, some use crutches or walkers, and others use wheelchairs. There's no one-size-fits-all.

Innovations like xStep aim to shift the status quo—offering non-invasive solutions that restore function, not just manage symptoms. Developed by SpineX Inc., a pioneer in non-invasive spinal neuromodulation, xStep is designed to improve mobility, bladder control, and independence for people living with CP, SCI, MS, and other chronic neurological conditions—all from the comfort of home. With two FDA Breakthrough Device designations and the recent HealthTech Innovation of the Year award, SpineX is redefining the future of neurorehabilitation. Together with SpineX Inc., ImagineWalk is more than just a voice for awareness—we’re actively working to expand global access to next-generation spinal cord stimulation technology.
