Wat Yang Kuang near Sugar Cane where we stay in Chiang Mai just outside the old walled city and very near the famous Chiang Mai south gate night market and even closer to the Saturday night market. Has a kitty cafe and chanting in the evenings at 6:30pm. One of the many gems to discover in our neighborhood.

โหมเจดีย์ — The “Hom Chedi” (Clustered Stupas)

Historical Background

This sacred place is one of the most important and ancient locations in Mae Chaem district.
According to historical records, the “Hom Chedi” was built during the reign of King Tilokaraj, the 9th king of the Mangrai Dynasty (Lanna Kingdom).

King Tilokaraj ordered the construction of many chedis throughout Lanna between BE 1982–2030.
One group of these chedis was built in Mae Chaem district.

The “Hom Chedi” originally had nine stupas, believed to enshrine relics of the Lord Buddha.
The area is still preserved as a sacred and historical site that reflects the beauty of Lanna art and culture.
It is considered a place of deep spiritual importance for the local people.

The Hom Chedi contains:
• Ancient Buddha images
• Chedi structures
• Ritual objects
• Sacred offerings

All created in the unique Lanna style by local artisans of Mae Chaem.

The architecture reflects:
• The cultural identity of Mae Chaem

• Deep religious devotion

The site symbolizes unity and respect for ancestral spiritual heritage.
