Yoga Nidra gives you the super power of relaxation, of bliss, of inner contentment. This ‘siddhi’ will support you in all areas of life. It especially supports the spiritual journey, particularly with meditation.
One of the issues that people often face in meditation is they get too uptight, unable to relax. Or they get drowsy and fall asleep. Or they are quickly overwhelmed with distracted thoughts and harmful habit patterns.
Well, meditation is very much about letting go. Learning to drop into a blissful state of relaxation will certainly enhance your meditation. A peaceful mind makes it easier to observe the present moment. When the water is rough, stirred up— it makes it difficult to see clearly. When the water is still, clear— one can see all the way to the bottom, taking you to the depths of your being. Yoga Nidra can support meditation, making your practice enjoyable, liberating, and effective.
Yoga Nidra is not a technique. It is a state of being, an expanded state of awareness while in a sublime state of relaxation. Guided by the soothing meditative voice of a competent teacher, the discipline utilises systematic practices to get to this state, like: neuro-muscular relaxation, intention manifestation, rotation of consciousness, breath awareness, sensory awareness, and visualisation. In this way it is effectively a science of meditative rest.

One enters a state of pratyahara, withdrawing from the external senses. It invites participants to undertake the inner journey.
Pratyahara has wonderful benefits, especially down regulating the sympathetic nervous system- like entering an inner resourced sensory deprivation tank- temporarily isolating oneself from external stressors. The effects are profound and well documented and backed up by research. Deeply resting the mind, body and nervous system makes one better able to deal with stressful situations upon emerging from yoga Nidra.
Also, the pratyahara of Yoga Nidra is a valuable method of dopamine detox. Our senses chase after external stimuli out of craving that dopamine hit. After some time, our system cannot handle it, we feel overstimulated, demotivated and burnt out. Not feeling ourselves, disconnected from our bodies, disassociated, unable to enjoy nature, existence, being.
So withdrawing into this inner journey, with just our body, energy, mind, intuition, our own innate sense of bliss, and ultimately our soul essence as company— really helps one to gain mastery over dopamine addiction. This leads to calmness and stillness of the mind, takes one back to their nature; enjoying existence, connecting to spirituality, delighting in the simplicity of just being. It becomes easier to break free from the powerful clutches of harmful addictions/ behavioural habits/ self limiting beliefs/ thought patterns.
That peace and happiness, which seems so elusive, it was always inside you, your destiny, your true nature. This is what the pratyahara reveals to you. This is the effect of Yoga Nidra.
