Karabakh Voice Congress 2026

We are honored to announce the 1st Karabakh Voice Congress – “Qarabağ Səs Konqresi / Karabakh Voice Congress”, which will be held on June 5, 2026, at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Karabakh University, Azerbaijan.

This pioneering scientific and artistic meeting will bring together international and local experts including physicians, voice scientists, speech-language pathologists, singers, musicians, and performing arts professionals to discuss the many dimensions of the professional voice. The congress will focus on vocal health, lifelong vocal performance, Azerbaijani music culture, mugham traditions, and the scientific foundations of artistic voice.

The meeting is organized with the collaboration and support of leading academic and professional organizations from Azerbaijan and Türkiye, creating a unique interdisciplinary platform that connects medicine, science, music, and culture.

As Co-Chair of this important initiative, I am delighted to invite colleagues, artists, researchers, and voice professionals from around the world to participate in this inspiring gathering dedicated to the future of voice science and vocal arts.

We look forward to welcoming you to Karabakh in 2026.

Who Is a Professional Voice User?
In voice medicine we generally distinguish several tiers of vocal demand. Elite vocal performers — opera singers, musical theatre artists, professional voice actors — depend on extraordinary precision and stamina, and even subtle pathology can be career-limiting. Professional voice users such as classroom teachers, public speakers, clergy, broadcasters, lecturers, and lawyers carry heavy daily voice loads, often without formal vocal training. A third group, including physicians, business executives, sales professionals, and customer-service agents, may not think of themselves as "voice users," yet their careers depend on a reliable, comfortable voice throughout long working days.
Our approach is tailored to each of these profiles. The diagnostic standards we apply are the same — but the treatment goals, return-to-work timelines, and rehabilitation strategies are calibrated to what each patient actually needs to do with their voice.

The Voice as a Professional Instrument
For singers, actors, teachers, broadcasters, lawyers, clergy, call-centre agents, coaches, politicians, and many others, the voice is not simply a means of communication — it is the primary tool of their profession. Even small changes in vocal quality, endurance, or range can translate directly into lost performances, missed teaching hours, or a damaged public presence. Professional voice users therefore have needs that go far beyond what general otolaryngology can address: they require care from clinicians who understand both the medicine of the larynx and the specific demands their work places upon it.
At our International Voice Clinic, professional voice care is built around this dual perspective. As a phoniatric centre, we combine medical, surgical, and behavioural expertise under one roof, so that each patient is evaluated not only as a larynx but as a working voice in a real professional context.

Pediatric vocal fold nodules are among the most common causes of chronic hoarseness in children, typically arising from repetitive phonotrauma such as shouting, loud play, or habitual throat clearing. These bilateral, symmetric lesions develop at the junction of the anterior and middle thirds of the vocal folds—the point of maximal vibratory contact—leading to a characteristic rough, breathy, and sometimes strained voice quality. Risk factors often include high vocal demand personalities, underlying airway or allergic conditions, and suboptimal voice habits. Importantly, unlike adult lesions, pediatric nodules are usually soft and reversible, reflecting the dynamic and adaptable nature of the developing larynx.
The cornerstone of treatment is conservative and centers on behavioral voice therapy. Therapy focuses on vocal hygiene education, reducing phonotraumatic behaviors, optimizing breath support, and promoting efficient voice production. Family involvement is critical to reinforce healthy vocal behaviors in daily life. Medical management of contributing factors such as allergies or reflux may further support recovery. Surgical intervention is rarely indicated and should be reserved for highly selected, therapy-resistant cases. With appropriate intervention and adherence, the prognosis is excellent, with most children achieving significant or complete voice normalization.
