Delaying in Vision Loss Can Make the Process More Difficult 👁️

One of the most common questions our patients ask is the treatment duration…
This process is generally planned to take around 4–5 weeks.

Starting the treatment with a better level of vision can help the process progress faster and allow the achieved improvements to be maintained for a longer time.
For this reason, early application is very important.

Before starting the treatment, we guide our patients to an eye hospital for a visual field test and OCT.
Most of our patients already come with a diagnosis, and the tests performed in their own country provide an important guide for us in evaluating the process.

We start the treatment on the same day.
At the same time, in order to plan the process more accurately, we also perform detailed evaluations in our clinic.

By examining distance vision, reading, and object recognition functions, we comprehensively analyze the level of vision.
The process for each patient is planned individually based on these evaluations.

📌 Remember, taking an early step is the most important part of the process.

Vision loss can start in the center or from the sides. Which one applies to you? 👁️

Stargardt disease affects the macular region and leads to a decrease in central vision. Individuals may notice a blurry spot when looking straight ahead and may have difficulty with activities that require fine detail, such as reading.

Retinitis Pigmentosa, on the other hand, affects peripheral vision. It may begin with reduced night vision, and over time the visual field can become more restricted. This can make moving around, especially in low-light conditions, more difficult.

Early awareness and regular eye examinations are important in these conditions.
If you experience similar symptoms, you can contact us for a detailed evaluation.

He thought he was seeing… He realized in the test that he couldn’t actually distinguish colors.🎨👁️

Our patient who came from Serbia had good central vision and reading ability; however, his peripheral and lower visual fields were quite limited. At night, he could almost not see at all. He thought he had no problem with colors. For this reason, we applied our color blindness test.

When he opened the test, he encountered a big surprise; he could not see the numbers within the colors. Such a test had never been done before, and he had not realized this. As the sessions progressed, we repeated the tests; first we showed single-digit numbers, then double-digit ones. Right now, he can perform the color blindness test without any problem.

At the same time, we observed that his peripheral vision opened up and his lower visual field began to normalize. The treatment process is progressing well; the process is not yet complete, and we expect even better results in the upcoming sessions. You can contact us for detailed evaluation.💫

Now Even My Patients Are Making the Diagnosis…👁️✨

A patient who came from Europe had been evaluated at multiple centers but had never received a clear diagnosis. When he visited our clinic, other patients looked at his test results and mentioned that the findings could be consistent with Stargardt disease.

After reviewing the test, I shared the same assessment. This situation shows how patients with genetic retinal diseases often become very familiar with their own symptoms and experiences over time.

By researching their complaints and recognizing similar patterns, many patients gain valuable awareness that helps guide them toward the correct diagnosis.

Accurate diagnosis is always the first and most important step in managing the process.💫

Retinitis Pigmentosa and Stargardt disease are often confused, but they affect vision in different ways. 👁️

Retinitis Pigmentosa typically impacts peripheral vision.
Patients may experience night vision difficulties, gradual narrowing of the visual field, and eventually tunnel vision.

Stargardt disease, on the other hand, primarily affects central vision.
This can make reading, recognizing faces, and seeing fine details more challenging. In some cases, color perception may also be affected.

Both conditions involve the retina and require careful monitoring. Early recognition of symptoms and proper evaluation are important to better understand the progression and plan the most appropriate approach.

It is important to remember that every patient is different. Visual function, symptoms, and progression can vary, which is why individualized assessment is essential.💫

👁️ Sometimes a small change can mean a very big difference for our patients…

A patient with retinitis pigmentosa who traveled from abroad to our clinic performed a simple self-test of his visual field before starting the treatment. Standing in front of a mirror in his hotel room, he reported that on the first day he could only see his eye and half of his nose.

After completing the planned sessions, he repeated the same test and noticed a remarkable change. When looking in the mirror, he stated that he was now able to see half of his lip as well.

This simple but meaningful observation indicated that he experienced an improvement of a few centimeters in his visual field in a circular area.

Each patient’s journey is unique. Treatment planning, expectations, and outcomes are evaluated individually. Regular follow-up and careful monitoring remain essential parts of this process. ✨

Every patient is a different story, and every improvement is a new hope…

Sometimes a treatment journey is not just a few steps, but a story of hope that crosses continents… ✨

This time, our patient came from Australia. After a long and tiring journey, we began treatment for Stargardt disease at our clinic. During the initial evaluation, due to central vision loss, we observed that both reading tests and eye contact were below the desired level.

He had difficulty while reading, could not directly focus on the point he wanted to look at, and tried to see by shifting his eyes from side to side. This situation affected his daily life and was understandably concerning for his family.

After the treatment process, encouraging improvements began to appear. His reading performance increased significantly, eye contact improved, and meaningful progress was observed in visual functions. We are still at the beginning of the journey, but this process gives us hope.

Our 11-year-old patient has a long road ahead. With regular follow-ups and planned treatments, we expect continued improvement. Our biggest goal is to see him playing football again the way he wants. ⚽️

Every patient is a different story, and every improvement is a new hope…

👁️ Different ages, different stories…
But the same hope, the same journey.

This time at our clinic, we were together with our 11-year-old Stargardt patient and our patient who has been living with Retinitis Pigmentosa for 38 years.

One at the beginning of a journey in childhood, the other with years of experience…
Yet our goal remains the same in both cases:
To preserve visual potential, closely monitor the process, and move forward with hope at every step. ✨

Being part of this journey together means so much to us. 🤍

How Do We Diagnose Stargardt Disease? 👁️

Stargardt disease is a genetic eye condition that affects the retina, especially the macula. For this reason, early detection and proper evaluation are very important.

When patients visit our clinic, we first perform a detailed eye examination. The patient’s symptoms, visual acuity, and retinal findings are carefully evaluated.

To establish a clearer diagnosis, we refer our patients to an eye hospital for further tests such as OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) and visual field testing. These tests allow us to examine structural changes in the retina and macula in detail and better understand the severity and the affected areas of the disease.

Based on the test results, the patient’s condition is evaluated and, when necessary, an appropriate treatment and follow-up plan is arranged.

👁️ In Stargardt disease, early diagnosis and regular follow-up play an important role in protecting vision.

Sometimes patience is the most important part of treatment… just like in the story of Yunus Emre 👁️✨

Sometimes I ask my patients if they know Yunus Emre. Most of the time, the answers are not very clear. So I tell them the story of Yunus Emre and Tapduk Emre. When Yunus Emre wanted to enter the dervish lodge, Tapduk Emre gave him a condition: for 40 years he had to cut wood and bring it to the lodge, making sure every piece was straight.

I sometimes share this story while explaining the treatment process. Because at first, 22 sessions can sound intimidating. But after a few sessions, patients often begin to notice changes — clearer vision, more brightness, a wider visual field, and easier adaptation in daily life.

After that point, patients usually stop worrying about the number of sessions. Sometimes patience and consistency become the most important parts of the treatment process. 👁️✨

If Letters Look Wavy, Your Eyes Might Be Trying to Tell You Something…👁️✨

Sometimes small changes in vision can be an early sign of conditions affecting the retina or the macula. Seeing letters as wavy, broken, or as if they are moving while reading may not simply be due to eye strain.

These types of visual changes may occur especially in genetic retinal diseases such as Stargardt disease, Retinitis Pigmentosa, and other macular dystrophies. In these conditions, central vision may gradually be affected.

Recognizing these symptoms early is very important for accurate diagnosis and regular follow-up.

If you notice that letters appear distorted while reading, or that straight lines look curved, it may be helpful to undergo a detailed retinal examination.

👁️ Early awareness plays an important role in early diagnosis and protecting vision.
