The first hair wash after a hair transplant matters a lot because it directly affects how well the newly implanted grafts “take” and how smoothly your scalp heals.

Right after a transplant, each graft (the tiny unit containing hair follicles) is sitting very delicately in place. They’re not fully anchored yet, and that takes several days. The first wash is usually done when the grafts are stable enough—but still vulnerable—so how it’s done makes a real difference.

Hair grafts tend to shed between 2-12 weeks following surgery. After they have shed, the hairs should start to grow back over the next 4-12 months.
