I was told recently us dietitians don't know how to eat, that we only know to eat grass, meaning salad 😅
So not true! We love to eat! But we know how to adjust certain things to make it a bit healthier.
Here I made minor adjustments to home made cream of mushroom with chicken soup. I used:

✔regular water for the base instead of chicken stock (stock cubes tends to be a little on the salty side but if you got the time to make it yourself at home, omit the salt 🧂)

✔I used low fat milk 🥛 instead of heavy cream.

✔Increased the veggies content. Use whatever you have.

✔Chicken breast was baked and cubed and added in.

✔Seasonings: 1/2 tsp salt, onions, garlic, black pepper, chilli flakes, parsley. (All you really need is the salt, black pepper, onions and garlic though, I was just feeling fancy. 😋)
That's all folks. My belly is full. I don't feel guilty. My food was healthy and balanced and tasty. Try it. Tell me what you think. 😊

Great information!

Great information!

The month of September has been designated as Prostate Cancer Awareness Month to bring attention to this very common form of cancer that affects so many men worldwide.
Prostate cancer continues to be the most commonly diagnosed form of cancer in men and is the second leading cancer-related cause of death in men. Some risk factors for developing it are age, ethnicity, and family history. Men of African ethnicity are more prone to developing this type of cancer than any other ethnicity. In 2018, it accounted for 42.1% of cancers in men and 19.5% of all cancers in Trinidad and Tobago. The year 2019 saw these increase to 42.8% and 22.0% respectively. Additionally, 2020 data shows prostate cancer as the second most deadly cancer in Trinidad and Tobago, accounting for over 14.0% of all cancer related deaths. Screening is available and should be done yearly from age 40 and up via Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) and Digital Re**al Examinations (DRE). With effective screening, this disease is often caught before it spreads, and as a whole, survival rates are good for this type of cancer. Schedule an appointment at your local health center to discuss prostate cancer screening.

Good afternoon! Here's a quick 15 min meal!
I had some frozen broccoli in the freezer so I blanched that for 2 mins in some boiling water along with the other veggies. Don't want to overcook your veggies because this tends to destroy a lot of their essential nutrients.

I seasoned and tossed up some chicken breast with garlic potatoes. And then added my veggies in. Served with a slice of avocado and that's it! Simple, nutritionally balanced and quick!

We're almost at the end of World Breast Feeding Week 2021 and the theme speaks loudly: Protect Breastfeeding, A Shared Responsibility.
The benefits of BF are numerous: it provides the baby with everything he/she needs within their first 6 months of life. It's the baby's first line of defense. Lowers the risk of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and so much more.
What we should also try to do is encourage mothers to choose breastfeeding over formula (in most cases, there are situations where BF may not be applicable due to conditions etc). We should also try to create accepting spaces within the workplace and community to encourage and support nursing mothers instead of critiquing and making them feel uncomfortable.
Breast is Best! 🤗
