Greatly enjoyed participating in a Comprehensive Advanced Skull Base Dissection course this February in Bristol, UK. It was a wonderful refresher of tried and true techniques, as well as new advancements which make minimally invasive skull base surgery safer and less traumatic.

An excellent achievement by Dr. Ravi Maharaj. As a former trainee of his, I was deeply honoured to have co-authored the Neurosurgery Chapter of his Textbook of Surgery for Medical Students.

It is a book “by us, for us”. That is how Dr Ravi Maharaj describes his new work, Textbook of Surgery for Medical Students. Dr Maharaj, Head of Department of Clinical Surgical Sciences within the Faculty of Medical Sciences, brought together contributions from 107 local, regional, and international experts. This is very much a work of Caribbean scholarship.

“It is important for us to document our work for the benefit of future generations,” he says.

Even more amazing, Dr Maharaj is offering the textbook free of charge to medical students.

“This is not a money-making venture. I have always been very lucky to have had great teachers in my career, great surgeons who have all influenced me and given of themselves. This is about giving back to this noble profession.”
