Approximately 15% of the total population in Trinidad and Tobago has diabetes. That is on average 148,900 persons in Trinidad and Tobago living with the disease.

How is it diagnosed?
A hemoglobin A1C (HbA1c) test measures the average amount of glucose in your blood over the past two to three months. It's used to diagnose prediabetes and diabetes, monitor how well your blood sugar is controlled, and assess your risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

As a means of giving back and to recognize World Diabetes day 2024, our center will be offering the public a 25% discount on the HbA1c blood test until the end of November.

October is Breast Cancer awareness month! Finding breast cancer early and getting state-of-the-art cancer treatment are two of the most important ways to prevent deaths from breast cancer.

If breast cancer is found early, when it’s small and has not spread, it is easier to treat successfully. Getting regular screening tests is the most reliable way to find breast cancer early.

The American Cancer Society states that:

🌷Women between 40 and 44 have the option to start screening with a mammogram every year.
🌷Women 45 to 54 should get mammograms every year.
🌷Women 55 and older can switch to a mammogram every other year, or they can choose to continue yearly mammograms. Screening should continue as long as a woman is in good health and is expected to live at least 10 more years.

Clinical Breast Examinations are also important in cancer detection, set up an appointment with one of our doctors today to have the exam conducted!

Cardiovascular diseases are diagnosed using a range of laboratory tests and imaging studies. These may include a troponin blood test, echocardiograms and angiogram studies.

Risk Factors:

What to look out for.
When it comes to bladder and urological health, it’s important to know what you are looking for. Here are a list of symptoms that might be reason enough to see the urologist

#1 Blood in your urine
8 out of 10 people with bladder cancer have some blood in their urine. The blood can be bright red or a dark brown color. It may be there each time you empty your bladder, or you may only notice it one time. Even if it is a one off, this still warrants a doctors visit

#2 Changes in how frequently you need to empty your bladder.
If you notice an increase in how often you need to empty your bladder

#3 Having difficulty urinating or a weaker than normal flow

#4 Unable to hold urine or leaking urine
If you find you are struggling to hold your urine for a reasonable amount of time without leaking or what you would consider normal for you, you should discuss this with a doctor.

#5 Pain or burning while urinating
If you experience any discomfort while emptying your bladder, this can be pain in your tummy area, within the urethra or where the urine exits your body.

#6 Lower back pain to either side
Speak with your doctor if you experience any pain in your lower back to either side. This can be a dull aching pain or a sharp pain that comes on suddenly. It may be there continuously or come and go. Keep a note of when you feel the pain and its location as this may be related to your kidneys.

#7 Getting up more frequently in the night to urinate
Everyone is different, some people can sleep the entire night through without needing to get up, some people are up 2-3 times per night.

#8 Generally feeling unwell or not yourself
We truly believe that “you know best” when it comes to your health and wellbeing. If you feel unwell or that something isn’t quite right, speak with your doctor. Whether it’s a general feeling of unease or discomfort, or a specific symptom, it is always worth speaking of.

Do you think you may be suffering from any of these symptoms? Call and schedule an appointment with our urologist today!
