What is ‘Anugraha’? You may be wondering what ‘Anugraha’ means. This is a Sanskrit word with many meanings but the words which speak to me the most are ‘grace’ and ‘support’. Anugraha is that grace which is achieved through our own experiences; which supports us as we move through our everyday lives. At Anugraha Yoga we create the space for your experiences to happen.

Today is International Self-Care Day, observed on 24th July as a reminder to care for ourselves 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Self-care is something that is very much talked and shared about in the present day. There are reminders that self-care isn't selfish, that we must fill our cups before we can care for others, that rest and boundaries are sacred, and that we must be proactive about taking care of self.

My foundation for all of that is my yoga practice. Through all of my roles as family member and friend, as caregiver, as student and teacher, and so much more, my yoga practice has offered the tools needed for my self-care.

Here I share with you the 7 pillars of self-care, as identified by the International Self-Care Foundation, in relation to yoga.

How does this post resonate with you? What pillar(s) are you working on? What would you like to know more about?

Share with me below or privately 🙏🏽

Thursday 19th June: Labour Day, Corpus Christi and also the perfect day to visit The Botanical Afterlife of Indenture: Imaginative Archives exhibition held at the

I remember when Vinay of put out a call for submissions, of plants, fruits and vegetables, for a collaborative project with The Institute of Gender and Development Studies at the UWI aimed at showing the link to the land and nature that has been inherited from our East Indian ancestors.

When this exhibition was announced, with a video installation created by Nicola Cross (.cross) from those submissions included as part of it, I knew that I wanted to attend.

This is part of my history and my story. I dressed in a sari that has been passed on to me, and reminds me of my grandmother.

When we arrived, the flow and beauty of the space - curated and designed by Melanie Archer () - invited us in. In the stories told by the godnas and art designed by Portia Subran (.art), the jewellery inspired by 19th century portraits of Indian women throughout the Caribbean, the mehendi by Risa Raghunanan-Mohanned () and photos created by Abigail Hadeed () and the overall concept by Dr. Gabrielle Hosein (), I felt my grandparents and great grandparents.

This art and exhibition is important because it creates visuals for stories we have heard but not been able to see, for experiences lived but unable to be expressed.

It is my hope that this represents the beginning of more such collaborations and exhibitions.

This exhibition felt like a way to honour the labour and experiences of those who came before me and I am thankful for the experience.

Exhibition closes on Saturday 21st June - if you are able to attend please do so, and then let's chat about it!

I am reflecting on the light this brings for today's solstice.

Happy Solstice!
Today is considered to be the longest day of the year in one hemisphere and the shortest in the other. It is a pause in time and an invitation for us to pause and and contemplate light, sight and awakening.

Sharing this song today as I encourage you to pause:

Happy Father's Day to the fathers and father figures ❤️🪔 May we learn from their teachings, our experiences with them and the relationships that we build.

This year I have been trying to spend more time with my parent. We do not always see eye to eye, and my partner would say that we are both equally stubborn, so there are occasional difficulties in our relationship.

Even so there is much to admire, to learn and to reflect on when it comes to understanding my parent, the life he has led thus far, and the life he tries to lead.

I try to remember the subtle practices of yoga, the awareness and understanding, the ethics. How we manage ourselves and the relationships we have with others is also a part of our practice.

Wishing him, and all the father figures, continued blessings for all that they add to our lives.

A brief look at Chai & Butter Making: the Indian Heritage Workshop held by the Indian Caribbean Museum of Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday 1st June, 2025.

A flyer sent by my cousin to our group WhatsApp chat led me to book spots in this workshop for my parent, my partner and myself. I am really glad I did, and that we attended despite the bad weather, because it was both an entertaining and educational afternoon.

Thanks to the tutor, Dilip Denesh Maharaj, for sharing his knowledge and experience with us. It was refreshing to hear someone share about the making of chai and the ingredients used including the properties of the spices. While this knowledge is not unknown to me, I’m happy that it is being shared in this way and that I could share the experience with my favourite people.

It was also very cool to see butter being made! We’ve watched YouTube videos before but it was so much better to experience it in person. I also really loved the sharing of stories of Lord Krishna (in relation to butter) as those stories are favourites from my childhood. The butter itself was delicious and we were all happy to have some with crix!

Thanks to the organisers as well for welcoming us into the space. We look forward to attending future workshops!

If there is any information that you would like or questions that you might have please feel free to reach out!

A reminder that chair yoga is possible.

When is it possible?
🔸If you can't get down to the mat due to injury, illness or something along those lines
🔸If you're in tight spaces e.g. your office
🔸If you made it to class but your yoga mat didn't

Can you think of any other possibilities?

This week I've taught some classes where people were able to join in thanks to the availability of chairs and my ability to teach to a mixed group.

If you'd like to join a class, check out the schedule on my website and connect with me!

Mother's Day 2025 marks the twelfth year without the physical presence of my mom. Earlier this year my brother and I hosted a satsang celebrating her around the anniversary of her passing.

My brother spoke. I shared a slideshow of moments and memories. The group sang her favourite chants, our Guru shared a message, her friends shared memories. It was a beautiful evening honouring who she was.

I continue to aspire to be all that she wanted me to be - guided by her example of serving community, and of living a life of devotion.

People have asked questions about how I became a yoga instructor and how long I've 'been doing' yoga... The answers are all tied to my mother, my first teacher, my first Guru.

I know that we each have our own experiences that will inform how we feel about this day. I hope that, however you are observing Mother's Day, there is a measure of love.
