Histology Technician Vacancy - Southern Medical Clinic (Salary range: TT $6,000-7,000 per month, based on experience).
The Histology Technician is expected to collect and analyse specimens and validate results using established protocols, safety guidelines, and regional guidelines.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs histology tests inclusive of, but not limited to, microtomy, tissue processing, embedding, staining, cytology smears and immunohistochemistry.
Preparing stains and solutions for histology processes.
Analyzes blood, urine, tissue, and other body specimens, confirms and verifies test results and reports findings to relevant physicians.
Verifies specimen and patient information, determines internal or external testing of specimen and enters data.
Utilizes computer skills to manage data efficiently on all relevant computer systems.
Assists in preparing and sending specimen(s) to reference laboratories.
Communicates and disseminates information to co-workers and customers.
Performs and reviews quality controls on tests and decides if results are within acceptable ranges, researches problems and corrects or reports.
Ensures quality monitoring is performed and maintained including but not limited to temperature checks and equipment maintenance.
Monitors stock inventory and provides timely and ongoing feedback as to requirements.
Operates and performs required maintenance procedures on instruments and equipment used in the laboratory; is able to properly set up, calibrate, maintain, operate and shut down such instruments and/or equipment.
Actively participates in Quality Improvement Programs essential to ensure that laboratory testing is accurate, timely and meets customer needs.
Trains and orientates new staff in the performance and interpretation of tests.
Other related duties as may be required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of established Laboratory protocols and guidelines, including decalcification techniques.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to think creatively and to demonstrate flexibility.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from a recognized institution or equivalent years of experience and training.
Computer Literacy / typing skills.
Minimum of two (2) yearsβ working experience in a related position.
OTHER:
Must be able to work a shift system, weekends and public holidays.
Experience in a Private health care environment considered an asset
