We have been given permission to share the recent story of a patient who came to Caribbean WoundBase Clinic about two and a half months ago. She is a diabetic. She has mixed arterial and venous disease. Her private doctor in 2017 saw that she developed a wound and referred her to the hospital for which she had a dye-CT scan test to look at the roadmaps of the arteries. She was found to have arterial disease. Many of her arteries had multiple plaques obstructing blood flow to her lower extremities. This eventually led to her losing the 2nd, 3rd and 4th digits on the right foot. She has a pressure wound at the front underside of her foot and a larger wound on the top of her right foot. Her son brought her in to our clinic. After approximately 8 years battling with recurrent infections, she had an initial consultation with us, a venous ultrasound of the right leq from the groin to the toes. She was found to have chronic venous insufficiency (what we all know as varicose veins). She immediately started minimally invasive treatment of her varicose veins. The pictures below show her progress up until now. She continues to do her dressing daily with saline and compression
