About Us
The Windows of Heaven Spa Collection is a fair-trade, plant based skincare line that integrates ethnomedicinal traditions with cutting edge science. Our formulations are the results of over 20 years of extensive and ongoing ethnobotanical studies of plants utilized in the ancient medicinal systems of the world. Small batch production helps us zero in on the quality of the raw materials we use to create a targeted, treatment focused range.
Our results- driven formulas utilize powerhouse antioxidants and concentrated bio-actives unique to the Caribbean. Our quest to harness a plant’s complete phytoactive profile - pure, stable and unadulterated as it exists in nature led us to develop our unique in-house extraction processes in which the vital constituents of the plants are not damaged unlike conventional methods that often overheat or use chemical solvents for extraction, rendering them less effective. Our methods allow the full power of the plant’s bioactives to be delivered directly to your skin..
HISTORY
My name is Alicia, I’m the Co-Director & Cosmetic Chemist, my journey into the world of skincare began in 1995. Imported products were not working as they were not formulated for the unique skin of the Caribbean people. I was having a very challenging time with teenage acne, super thick coarse hair and ultra-oily skin…….. a recipe for skin disaster in the Caribbean sun. At the age of 14, I began researching ethnobotany, specifically ethnomedicine; the study of traditional medicines—not only those with relevant written sources (e.g., Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda), but also those whose knowledge and practices have been orally transmitted over the centuries. At the time I was already studying human biology & chemistry, I simply did extra research in the field of skin physiology to complete my understanding of skincare. My first real formulations were to assist my own skin by balancing the pH levels, managing sebum production, eliminating acne and its scars. To properly care for and manage my unique hair which is neither straight nor kinky, a dry scalp, thick, voluminous, coarse hair and super dry split ends. Re-balancing this to a healthy, shiny mass of unruly curls. Seeing the transformative power of plants was both a relief and incredibly inspiring. This fanned the spark to continue my research and advance my skills as a cosmetic chemist.
