What is the skeletal system?
- The skeletal system is one of the organs that plays an extremely important role in the human body. Bones help protect and support the heart, brain as well as other parts of the body.
- Bones also produce white and red blood cells, store essential minerals and help maintain motor functions. Normally, a healthy person's body at birth will have 270 bones. In the process of evolution, a lot of bones would tend to link together.
- As an adult, humans will have 206 different bones, not to mention a large number of bones in small areas of the body. The largest bone is usually the femur and the smallest bone is the pedal bone.

Functions of the skeletal system?
- Protection: The ribcage and skull bones work to protect the internal organs from damage.
- Support: The skeleton of the human body is like a seamless bridge, connecting tissues and muscles together.
- Movement: Thanks to the connection between muscles and bones, the human body can move easily and flexibly.
- Mineral storage: Bones are like a storehouse, helping to store phosphorus, calcium and essential minerals for the body to use when needed.
- Energy reserve: In the fat cells of the yellow bone marrow usually store fats to provide energy to the body.
- Produces blood cells: Helps produce blood cells in the bone marrow.

What does it take to have a strong skeletal system?
- Calcium supplements: This is an important nutrient for bone health. Therefore, the best way for your body to absorb calcium is to supplement through foods in your daily diet. Foods high in calcium, including colostrum, yogurt, milk, cheese, legumes, leafy greens, soybeans, salmon, sardines, shrimp,...
- Consume more foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids: Some studies say that omega-3 fatty acids have the ability to maintain bone density very well. Therefore, you should include more foods rich in this type of fatty acid in your diet, including nuts, mackerel or salmon.
- Maintain a healthy weight: Keeping a healthy body weight is considered essential for the health of the human skeletal system. According to research, people who are underweight are often at higher risk of osteoporosis, however being overweight can also add pressure to bones and other organs. Therefore, you should maintain a regular weight (based on body mass index) to ensure a strong and supple skeleton.
- Avoid smoking and heavy drinking: Frequent smoking and alcohol use can increase the incidence of osteoporosis leading to fractures. Therefore, to help strengthen a healthy bone system, you should give up smoking and drink alcohol only in moderation.
