For a suspected heart attack, immediately call emergency services (like 911), have the person rest in a comfortable, calm position (like sitting), loosen tight clothing, and give them aspirin (if not allergic and able to swallow) to chew. Be prepared to perform hands-only CPR or use an AED if they become unresponsive and stop breathing, and provide reassurance until help arrives, as quick action saves lives.

Immediate Actions (Minutes Matter)

• Call Emergency Services: Dial 911 (or your local emergency number) immediately; don't delay to see if symptoms improve.

• Rest & Reassure: Have the person sit down, lean against something, and stay calm. Loosen tight clothing and offer reassurance.

• Aspirin: If the person is conscious, not allergic, and can swallow, have them chew one regular (325mg) or two low-dose (81mg) aspirin.

• Nitroglycerin: If they have prescribed nitroglycerin for a known heart condition, help them take it as directed.

If Unresponsive or Not Breathing

• Start CPR: If the person becomes unresponsive and isn't breathing normally, start hands-only CPR (push hard and fast in the center of the chest) or standard CPR if trained, until paramedics arrive.

• Use an AED: If an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is available, use it by following the voice prompts.

What NOT to Do

1. Don't Drive Yourself: Only drive yourself to the hospital as a last resort if no ambulance can come.

2. Don't Delay Calling: Call for emergency help first, before anything else.

Medical training end of the year first aid" typically refers to the review, renewal, or specific certification courses taken by medical professionals or first aiders at the end of a training period or before the year concludes to maintain compliance and refresh skills. 🩺

TRAINING OPTIONS

In-person classes: Traditional classroom settings with hands-on skills practice using mannequins and other equipment.

Online courses: Self-paced learning for theoretical knowledge, though many online-only courses do not meet requirements for workplace certification as they lack practical skill demonstration.

Blended learning: Combines self-paced online instruction with a shorter, in-person session to practice and demonstrate skills to a certified instructor.

Eye injury⛑️
In our first aid class: Proper response to eye injuries saves eyesight⛑️

Treat eye injuries as potential emergencies, as prompt action can prevent permanent vision loss. If you have sudden vision loss, severe pain, or a penetrating injury, call emergency services or go to an eye casualty department immediately.

General Rules for All Eye Injuries

DO NOT rub or apply pressure to the eye, as this can worsen scratches or force objects deeper.

DO NOT use tweezers or any other tools to remove objects from the eye.

DO NOT apply ointments or non-prescription eye drops, which can irritate the injury or hide damage during a medical exam.

DO NOT take aspirin or ibuprofen (NSAIDs) for pain, as they thin the blood and can increase internal bleeding. ⛑️
