Our friends from GlobeMed at Duke University spent last week doing a schistosomiasis education program at Shirati Primary School and Mkoma Primary School. They taught the children about the life cycle of schistosomiasis, treatment, prevention, and symptoms. One of the interns, Hannah, mused, "I loved how engaged the students were during our time at the schools. They were very interested in the information we discussed and I hope they gained knowledge about schistosomiasis that they can pass along to others."

We're so excited to be undertaking a Schistosomiasis mass drug administration and education program with our partners from GlobeMed at Duke University! Schistosomiasis is a waterborne parasitic disease that affects many people in Shirati and the areas surrounding Lake Victoria. We hope that the work being done this summer will increase awareness of the disease and help mitigate its effects on the population.

Great to have Dr. Esther Kawira (along with her daughter Sara and grandson Trevor) all the way from Shirati, Tanzania here in Cincinnati addressing the audience at Night on the Serengeti. We couldn't do any of the work we do in TZ without the help of Dr. Kawira, her husband Josiah and the support of the Shirati Health, Education and Development Foundation (SHED).

Thanks for all the wonderful work you do with us, Village Life Outreach Project (VLOP)/University of Cincinnati!

VLOP is one of our primary partner organizations, working in collaboration with us to carry out health and development projects here in the Mara region. We provide primarily logistical support while VLOP conducts resource management. This summer, a VLOP group of medical students, nurses, and physicians came to work with the Roche Health Center [one of the VLOP signature projects, a newly constructed, world-class health facility] providing free medical care for local residents. We're always happy hosts with this group :)
