History of the Enterprise
Pumpkin Value Addition Enterprise was started by rural women in Lukira village, Kampiri parish, Myanzi Sub-county, Mubende District. This group purposely started to organize vulnerable women in rural areas to find alternative ways of increasing their household income, food security and nutritional values to reduce malnutrition among their children and the surrounding areas. It also started to address unemployment among rural women and also to address environmental challenges through active engagement in sustainable development activities such as planting more pumpkins to reduce land degradation. This women group lacked value addition skills, improved seeds, marketing and financial literacy, had no access to financial loans and practicing poor farming methods. In addition majority were not educated and believed poverty was inherited and had no hope for tomorrow. Mindset of the women who think one who has not attained higher/ formal education cannot run a business. With all these challenges undressed, JOSMAK International (U) Limited, found it necessary to initiate a company that directly empowers youth and women to fully participate in their self -coordinated development for self- reliance.
