The Ecosan(green) Toilet system.

The EcoSan toilet is a closed system that does not need water, so is an alternative to leach pit toilets in places where water is scarce or where the water table is high and the risk of contamination of ground water is increased. The system is based on the principle of recovery and recycling of nutrients from excreta to create a valuable resource for agriculture.

When the pit of an EcoSan toilet fills up it is closed and sealed. After about eight to nine months, the faeces are completely composted to organic manure and can be used on farms. When the first pit is closed, users can switch to using the second pit.

The cost of this new system is 50% less than the conventional pit latrines being used in most parts of Uganda. It takes between 7-10 days to complete the construction and takes less material. It also gives the users permanent usage unlike the conventional pit which when its full you have to start all over again by digging up 20+ feet to accommodate the excrete.

With Ecosan (Green) Toilet there is no flies and smell unlike the conventional old system, making it ideal in small area and can as well be used inside houses without flushh water as long as the necessary guidelines are strictly taken. Ecosan Toilets can be used anywhere for example places with high water tables or hard impenetrable Rocky grounds. It's ideal for homesteads, Schools, Hospitals, Prisons, Business centers Etcetera.

Post-construction monitoring is crucial for at least one year so the family can learn processes such as when to close the first chamber and start using the second one and when to remove the compost. If there is a mistake in any one of the three steps, the system will not work.

Our team are always available to help with any necessary information on matters concerning Ecosan (green) Toilets.
