Session three is on ✨️Identifying the deteriorating patient✨️

This is a vital skill for nurses. Without proper identification of deterioration, patients will become very unwell, increasing the risk of death.

With Sister Jennifer's 30 years of experience, she has extensive knowledge to share with the students!

The first session taught in the programme is ✨️vital signs!✨️

Monitoring vital signs provides health professionals with an insight into the patient's health status, acts as an early warning sign of deterioration, and helps to monitor the patient's condition.
Effective observation of vital signs can protect health and life!

Sister Jennifer makes her journey to the hospital every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. She has two adopted children and takes time out of her busy schedule to make sure that students are properly supported.
She delivers training every week without fail as students regularly move onto different placements.
We want to reach as many students as possible.

Meet Baby Resusci Annie! 🎉
A massive thank you to one of our amazing donors who bought this baby resuscitation doll.
We teach students from 3 different paediatric units once per week. Baby Resusci Annie will help to teach the student nurses how to give good infant CPR and put theory into practice.
In training so far we have borrowed a doll but it wasn't in the best condition and we would wait a long time to collect.
Now we have our very own!

If you are interested in supporting our training, we would really appreciate your prayers!

If you feel called to give financially, we have a link to the JENGA giving page in the bio. You can specify to give to the "student nurse training" in the comment section of the form.

Meet Sister Jennifer 💛
Our legendary teacher!
Sister Jennifer has over 30 years of nursing experience, including 10 years as the 'in charge' and 3 years as area manager for Paediatrics. She has an incredible heart for nursing; having retired in 2020, she is so excited to be back and supporting the students.
She encourages students to take an active role in their learning, asking them to answer questions and practice their skills.
We think she's amazing!

Hello! We are the On-ward Student Nurse Training Scheme, a new programme under the JENGA Uganda health team.

Based at the main referral hospital in Mbale, we provide training for student nurses on their placements on basic nursing skills. The training takes place on and off the wards and includes basic life support, vital signs, care of the deteriorating patient, bedside manner and communication, and medication management. As well as training, we offer a safe space for students to ask questions and reflect on their nursing experiences.

"The hospital is under tremendous strain with the incredible volume of need, and so sometimes the student nurses are left unsupervised and make mistakes."

This training aims to improve patient care and take the pressure off the qualified staff at the hospital.
