Yowza - it's HOT outside! Just like humans, dogs can suffer from heat stroke and exhaustion. This article from hillspet.com walks through symptoms and prevention:
"You can help keep your pooch from overheating with some basic safety practices. These include limiting exercise or outdoor activity on excessively hot or humid days, providing plenty of shade and water when your dog is outdoors, and never, under any circumstances, leaving your pet in a parked car—not even in the shade with the windows rolled down."
hillspet.com Learn the signs of heat exhaustion & heat stroke in your dog, as well as how to tell if he's overheating and what to do in that emergency.

It's black fly season again. These pesky "no see 'ems" lurk in the grass in early Spring and tend to bite the bellies of our canine companions. Luckily, in most cases, the bites do not bother the dog one bit. The bites should resolve within a week. If you find a skin rash on your dog like this one that doesn't go away in a few days, or bothers your pet, this may indicate another problem. Please give the office a call at 616-942-7387 if this is the case.
[05/22/20] Would you bring your pet to a pedicure day at Ada Hospital for Animals on Saturday, May 30th, since we're able to perform nail trims starting the end of May ?
[05/16/20] FYI-There is what appears to be a yellow lab mix running near the tennis courts at Forest Hills Eastern. The dog has a collar and looks in good shape but I couldn’t get close enough to see the sex. He/she is running in the fields behind the courts.

Getting a puppy is an exciting time, but there are certain factors to be aware of during this time of lock down. This article touches on how getting and raising a puppy during COVID19 is different than pre-Covid19.
"A puppy that is never left alone while they're young is at a higher risk of developing separation anxiety. With everyone stuck at home right now, it's important to have a plan for teaching your puppy that being by themselves is actually pretty great! Separation anxiety is much easier to prevent than it is to treat, so it's imperative that you set your puppy up when they're young to enjoy some alone time."
"Your puppy knows when you're just in the other room or outside in the yard (their nose is a powerful thing!). Take this chance to hop in your car and find somewhere to park and read a book for a little bit. Not only is this giving your puppy some alone time to enjoy a stuffed KONG, but it's also making sure your car battery stays charged."
preventivevet.com Learn what considerations you should take before bringing a puppy home and tips for what to focus on with your puppy during the coronavirus pandemic and social distancing.
Thank you, Janine!
