Here's a Frequently Asked Question I get in the office: 'Does Acupuncture Work Immediately?'

Here's the answer: Acupuncture doesn’t always work immediately, as results can vary depending on a person’s condition and how long they’ve been experiencing symptoms. While some people may notice early relief—especially when seeking acupuncture for back pain or tension-related discomfort—many conditions improve gradually. For chronic or long-standing issues, progress often happens over multiple visits, as the nervous system begins to rebalance and inflammation slowly decreases, allowing the body to heal more naturally over time.

How Far Do Acupuncture Needles Go In?

Needle depth is precisely controlled and varies depending on the specific area and your individual wellness goals. For example, in areas like the forearm or back (often used in acupuncture for tennis elbow), needles may be placed slightly deeper into the muscle tissue to address tension. On the other hand, in more delicate areas, such as during facial sessions or auricular (ear) acupuncture, the placement is very superficial, often just a few millimeters deep.

At ShayTheCoach Acupuncture, every placement is performed with clinical precision to ensure your comfort and safety. The goal is to stimulate the point effectively while maintaining a relaxing, non-invasive experience.

Here's a little bit about my acupuncture practice:

What Should I Expect During Treatment?

Your visit begins with a detailed consultation. Dr. Shay takes the time to discuss your health history, lifestyle, and wellness goals to ensure a comprehensive understanding of your needs. Once the assessment is complete, Dr. Shay utilizes sterile, single-use needles at points selected to support your specific goals, whether you're seeking acupuncture for vertigo, back pain, stress management, or another issue. After the needles are placed, you’ll simply relax and rest comfortably while the treatment does its work. Most people find this time calming and restorative.

Happy Monday!
I want to talk about resilience. Why? I was in a car accident last year and continue to recover, while starting a practice and teaching. So, I picked up a few resilience books and decided to share some highlights, in case they can help some people on FB.
Resilience is the ability to endure challenges or recover quickly from hardship. So, defining it is great, but how do you practice it?
Here's one tool: Self-talk. Find one thought that isn't serving you and rewrite it so it does.
For example, "Today is Monday, and it's going to be a long week."
To: "Today is Monday, and I have a productive week ahead of me."
The key is to make it realistic and motivational so that it resonates.
Try it and let me know how it goes!
I'm now taking appointments for acupuncture sessions. Go to "Book Now" at www.shaythecoachacupuncture.com to schedule.

Hi all,

I've been transparent about recovering from a car accident this year. The recovery continues with working out and using saunas to recover post-workout. I did some research to differentiate when to use a wet sauna versus a dry sauna and each of their respective benefits. There are also infrared saunas to help with recovery. In any case, I wrote a CEC article on it for NFPT | National Federation of Professional Trainers so I could share what I learned about saunas and post-workout recovery. Give it a read (you don't need to wait for an injury to use them)!

Fit Pros, are more and more of your clients using saunas for post-workout recovery? Have you ever wondered what the difference between a dry sauna and a wet
