Summa Health and HATCo have completed their transaction, marking the start of a long-term partnership to deliver a more proactive, accessible and affordable system of community-based, lifelong healthcare.

The net proceeds received from the transaction will fund Trailhead Community Health Foundation of Greater Akron to support focused investment to benefit community health in the Greater Akron region. Trailhead Foundation is an independent nonprofit governed separately from both Summa Health and HATCo and is dedicated to improving community health through strategic grants, collaborative partnerships, and targeted initiatives.

Gynecologic cancer treatment is most effective when found early. Through the generous support of Joanne and Eugene Colombo, Dr. Andrews and his team at Summa Health are better equipped to provide personalized, comprehensive care to women with all types of gynecologic cancer, thereby helping to improve patient outcomes. Telehealth continues to be a growing component of convenient and efficient healthcare. With the support of the Walter W. Born Foundation, our Virtual Nursing program is helping to enhance the patient experience through secure video technology.

With this program, Virtual Nurses work alongside the patient’s bedside care team to provide extra support, communication and expert guidance. We are grateful that through the generosity of the Walter W. Born Foundation, we can ensure continued improvement in expert care, safety and satisfaction.

We are grateful for generous partners like Heart of Ohio Diaper Bank, raising awareness during National Diaper Need Awareness Week with a Little Bottom Blessings gift to the Women’s Health Center.

No one should have to choose between food and diapers. With compassion and dignity, the diaper bank is helping families meet basic hygiene needs—keeping babies clean, dry, happy and healthy.

On National Grief Awareness Day, we extend a heartfelt thank you to our clinically trained Chaplains who specialize in grief recovery. By providing emotional support and validation, our chaplains help patients and family members navigate their pain and begin to heal.

In addition, Summa Health’s Grief Recovery Method training program educates staff on how grief impacts job satisfaction, patient outcomes and employee morale – and provides tools for healthcare professionals on how to process grief-related emotions.
