Seeing testimonials like this are such a wonderful part of what we do here. Thank you so much to this parent for sharing the progress you saw as a result of his vision therapy.
Both the featured patient and his family worked so very hard to achieve the results they did, and we couldn't be prouder over here! If the difficulties described in this post sound familiar to you, please head over to

Reading has always been a struggle. Last year it was an absolute battle all through school. The reading level was well below what was even considered low average, nothing made sense and it affected every aspect of school. There were daily tears, loads of fights and so much frustration.
I had conversations about maybe dyslexia but was told at class there wasn’t evidence of it. Finally he casually mentioned the words were fuzzy when he read or that they jiggled and it was hard to see them. There were three separate eye exams all that came up with 20/20 perfect vision. It didn’t make sense but our optometrist mentioned they believed he should get tested for eye therapy because it might be an eye strength and/or convergence issue.
We had him tested and finally had our answers. Dyslexia and convergence were the culprits! Essentially his eye muscles can read but they had difficulty holding focus on the same thing and also difficulty coming together (couldn’t go cross eyes at all). This is wildly important for learning and reading. I didn’t even know eye therapy was a thing!
After six months of vision therapy at the most amazing place, eye exercises 4-6 times a week and in person appts weekly he graduated!!!! This kid has worked so dang hard! The fuzzy and jiggling of words is gone, his reading level went from 2nd to 4th/5th and even his dyslexia is better!! He actually enjoys reading now. I can give him worksheets he can read and follow instructions to on his own. He is even able to help his little brother with reading. Not to mention the fact that he considers himself a reader now and believes in his abilities with confidence.
I am SOOO glad we trusted him and kept pushing until we found answers to a very real problem. Was it easy? Heck no, it’s a lot of hard work, it’s an investment and it took a lot of time. But gosh it was worth it’s weight in gold to be able to give him this skill and the tools to fly.
If your kiddo is struggling and something seems off I cannot say enough, listen to your kids and fight for answers. Maybe look into eye therapy! Ask your kids what it looks like to them and why things are frustrating.
I cannot express my gratitude to Oregon Vision Development Center, River View Family Eyecare, LLC. and their staff. They gave us clear answers when others couldn’t figure out the problem. They gave him thr tools, the encouragement and the support he needed. It really is such a worthwhile investment.
So proud of my reader!
