Dr. Chavez obtained his Bachelors in Sports Medicine/Athletic Training from the University of New Mexico in 2018. During his time at UNM, he had the opportunity to work with Lobo basketball, football, and baseball. He has also had the opportunity to work with USTA and USA Track & Field. He recently completed his Doctorate of Physical Therapy at the University of New Mexico where he graduated in July 2021. What he enjoyed most was working in the intensive care units (ICU’s) at UNM Main Hospital.
Dr. Chavez decided to pursue a career in Physical Therapy not only to change lives in a positive way, but to become an advocate for his future patients. He grew up watching his family and friends taken advantage of by the healthcare system. The same healthcare system where it takes weeks to months for patients to get seen and even longer to receive the treatment they deserve. False promises, quick fixes, and polypharmacy have become some of the biggest concerns and challenges patients face today, not including the constant battle with health insurances. Remember, they are not healthcare providers, SO THEY SHOULD NOT BE THE ONES TO DETERMINE THE HEALTHCARE YOU DESERVE! This is why Dr. Chavez wants to be a spark for the change that is long overdue.
He is driven by his passion to empower his patients through education to improve health literacy in making sound healthcare decisions. His long term vision is to start his very own interdisciplinary pro-bono clinic on weekends for less fortunate individuals who suffer from pain and/or dysfunction, however, do not have insurance or the means to pay for the care they deserve. Everyone is an Athlete in our minds! Whether you have been limited in physical activity due to pain and/or injury, Dr. Chavez will help you identify what you need.
