Your pelvic position changes your pressure — and your pressure changes your symptoms.

When you lift with an over-arched low back, pressure shifts downward and the pelvic floor takes on more load.
When you lift tucked under, the system shortens and pressure can’t distribute well.

Either way, your core (diaphragm, abdominals, pelvic floor, and deep back muscles) can’t manage pressure efficiently if your pelvis isn’t neutral.

That’s when we see leaking, heaviness, hip tightness, low back discomfort, or glute gripping.

Neutral doesn’t mean flat — it means ribs stacked over pelvis, 360° breath expansion, and balanced pressure (not max bracing).

If you’re having pelvic symptoms during lifting, your pressure strategy might be the missing piece. 💪

👏 Skills Lab Spotlight at Our Clinic! 👏

This month Stacy, a 3rd-year DPT student from UNM, led an awesome skills lab on rhythmic stabilization and its role in treating upper extremity athletes! 💪🏽🏐⚾️

Rhythmic stabilization is a neuromuscular re-education technique that challenges the shoulder and arm to maintain stability against unpredictable resistance. For overhead athletes — like baseball, softball, volleyball, tennis, and swimmers — this is huge. Why? Because sport isn’t predictable. Your shoulder has to react, adjust, and control movement in real time.
🔹 Improves dynamic shoulder stability
🔹 Enhances joint proprioception (body awareness)
🔹 Builds endurance in key stabilizing muscles

She did a fantastic job teaching progressions, cueing techniques, and sport-specific applications. It’s exciting to see the next generation of physical therapists building strong clinical reasoning skills while helping our athletes perform at their best.

If you’re an overhead athlete dealing with shoulder pain or looking to improve performance, we’d love to help you build strength that translates directly to your sport.

Did you know that being stressed or afraid can actually make pain feel worse?

Pain isn’t just a direct response to tissue damage. Research shows that pain is a decision your brain makes based on the information it receives — and how safe or threatened your nervous system feels.

When you’re stressed, anxious, or overwhelmed, your internal “alarm system” becomes more sensitive. That means movements or sensations that might normally feel manageable can trigger a stronger pain response.

This is one reason why breathing exercises, relaxation, meditation, and mindfulness can be powerful tools in pain management. Calming the nervous system can reduce pain intensity and help your body become more receptive to movement and exercise.

If you’re living with chronic pain and want to better understand how to manage it, we’re here to help. Let’s work on retraining the alarm system together. 💙

We’re excited to share that one of our Clinicians, Steve, recently completed his Level 2 Functional Dry Needling Certification through Evidence In Motion 🎉

This advanced training will expand Steve’s capabilities with higher-level spinal, core, and extremity techniques, allowing him to treat more complex movement and pain patterns with greater precision. Continued education like this ensures we’re always bringing the most current, evidence-based care to our patients.

🏀 Back on the court! 🏀

Huge congratulations to one of our patients, Mateo, on returning to basketball after putting in the work and trusting the rehab process. From early sessions to full-speed play, this was all about consistency, resilience, and doing the little things right.

Nothing beats seeing our patients get back to the activities they love—stronger, more confident, and game-ready. Well done! 💪👏

Diabetes and foot health: 5 daily habits that protect your steps 🦶👟

Living with diabetes can affect circulation and sensation in your feet, which raises the risk of wounds, infections, and ulcers. The good news: consistent, simple foot care can dramatically lower that risk.

Contact your provider or foot specialist if you notice numbness, burning, color changes, or a cut or blister that is not improving within a few days. Early help can prevent infections and keep you active.

As a physical therapy clinic, we help people with diabetes stay strong, mobile, and safe on their feet. If you have diabetes and aren’t sure how your feet are doing, schedule a visit so we can screen your balance, circulation, and footwear and build a plan that keeps you moving confidently.
