Happiness is a choice. At any moment we have a choice: to decide to be happy, or not. When you choose to be happy, bad stuff still can happen, but instead of shutting down, you keep your heart open and let the pain pass through you. Acceptance decreases suffering. This is a lovely concept from yoga and also from The Untethered Soul. I love working on how to remain open, even when times are tough. ☁️What is Pranayama? Pranayama is the formal practice of controlling the breath, which is the source of our prana, or vital life force.
🧘♀️Practice: Kapalabhati Breath of FIRE! “Cleaning Breath” is an intermediate to advanced pranayama that consists of short, powerful exhales and passive inhales. 🙂I practice right before lunch to increase my metabolism and keeps me focused and energized.
1. Sit in your comfortable meditative seat (on floor, chair or standing in mountain) palms facing up on top of the knees
2. Breath of Fire is powered from the navel point (solar plexus) and the diaphragm is used to pump the navel in and out with each exhale and inhale, respectively
3. Begin with open the mouth and pant like a dog through to understand the diaphragm pattern. Once you have a rhythm, close your mouth and breathe through your nostrils. Now you are doing it!
4. Quicken the pace of the inhale and exhale, but keep them equal. There is a quick inhale and quick exhale with no pause between them at the rate of approximately 2-3 cycles per second.
5. Begin practice up to 20 cycles of breath or 1 full minute and increase as needed. 1-3 minutes at a time.
6. Your chest will remain relaxed and slightly lifted and your hands, feet, face and abdomen will also be relaxed.
⚠️Note: If you feel dizzy, giddy, or light headed, slow down your pace and ensure that both the inhale and exhale are of equal duration. Please check with your Physician before performing any pranayama, breath practice.
Beautiful weather today, get outside & let the sun shine in on your soul. Let yourself breathe fresh air, see the spring flowers budding, and take a moment to just be present. Be here now and accept that you are exactly where you are supposed to be.
I flowed in the sun after a hike with the boys. No pictures of the boys today, it was a phone-less hike (the best kind!). I took in the fresh air, felt the sun in my skin, and slowed down my breath. I am at home in my body. I am here and here is exactly where I am supposed to be.

Prolonged Exhale: exhaling about 3-5 seconds longer than your inhale to activate your vagus nerve and relax your nervous system. Try 5-10 rounds for best results!

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, my next, “Teens Yoga for Anxiety” Workshop will not be able to kick off on April 23rd, BUT I would still very much like to support the teen community during this time.
I have decided to host a FREE “Yoga for Teens” group through Facebook. I will offer LIVE, virtual sessions every Thursday (time will vary based on the flexibility of my current clients). During the live session, I will offer a yoga practice and will stay on for discussion and connecting. I will also post lots of tips, ideas, & activities in the group.
