[02/20/14]   It is with great sadness that we announce that we will be closing down this business. As of 02/20/2014, we will not be accepting any new patients. We will remain open until we have completed the course of care for all existing patients. Our phone, email, fax and website will remain in place for the coming months to handle all billing until all claims have been resolved. Had the pleasure of giving a seminar on running injuries and prevention to the wonderful ladies of South Riding/Stone Ridge Mom's Run this Town this morning. Our take away messages for preventing injury: 1) Don't do too much, too soon and 2) allow regular recovery days each week so your body has time to adapt to the stresses.

[01/20/14]   Can't think of anything better to do on this MLK holiday than sit down and do some planning to prepare for our upcoming volunteer shifts with the Loudoun Free Clinic. So excited to be able to give back to the community. Will be posting more information in the future as we solidify plans.

I'm a day late for the memorial run, but was able to log 7 miles in memory of a fellow runner and mom who was recently killed when struck by a drunk driver while out on a run. Thinking of you and your family today, Meg. #megsmiles

World's First Bionic Leg Makes Headlines - Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago

How cool is this?! The New England Journal of Medicine recently presented a case study describing the world’s first thought-controlled bionic leg, developed by The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC). Loudoun County is beautiful this morning, but can be dangerous! We will be experiencing melting and re-freezing over the coming days, so be on the lookout for black ice. Avoid untreated surfaces and move your runs inside to the treadmill. When walking outside, keep your hands out of your pockets so you can catch yourself if you fall. Better to fracture a wrist rather than your skull! Stay safe and warm!

[08/17/13]   Do you have a young athlete at home? Here are some tips to reduce overuse injuries, from Dr. Neeru Jayanthi of Loyola University Medical Center (quoted from "PTinMotion"):
- athletes should not spend more hours per week than their age playing sports
- athletes should not spend more than twice as much time playing organized sports as they spend in gym and unorganized play
- athletes should not specialize in 1 sport before late adolescence
- athletes should not play continuous sports competitively year round
- athletes should take at least 1 day off per week from sports training

[05/08/13]   How much have you exercised this week? The American Heart Association recommends at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity 5 times per week or at least 25 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity 3 times per week (or a combo of the two). They also recommend moderate to high intensity muscle strengthening 2 times per week. Can't figure out how to get it all in? Studies have shown that you will see similar benefits if you break up your workout into 10-15min increments throughout the day.

Please join the SRRC this Sunday, April 21 at 7 am at Panera for a Run for Boston. We will have Support Boston race bibs for runners to pin on their shirts and the routes will carry some significance, choose from either 2.62 miles or 4.15 (the date). Bring a friend!

To tie into Earth Day (Monday), we will also have a box set up to collect your old used running shoes before and after the run. These shoes will be recycled to people in need, and hopefully inspire others to lace up and get outside... for as we have seen over the past few days, runners have strong, determined spirits and are all linked by their love of the sport. The gift of running is a wonderful thing to pass on to someone.

Vinaya graduated from NTR University of Health Sciences in India with a Bachelors in Physical Therapy in 2005. She then graduated from Loma Linda University with a Masters Degree in Physical Therapy in 2007. She has been practicing in outpatient orthopedic clinics for over 4 years and has worked with a variety of patients with different conditions. Her passion is outpatient orthopedics and is specialized in treating neck and back injuries. She has a special interest in shoulder, knee, foot and ankle injuries. Vinaya enjoys helping her patients return to the activities that are important to their quality of life.
