Admittedly,  maintaining a social media presence isn’t our strength, but here you go… Long overdue.

Early this summer we marked 3 years in practice!  We are excited to share some updates.

Our Enhanced Focus & Services:

To better address urgent concerns and offer more comprehensive lactation and feeding support, we have narrowed our focus to supporting families with infants in their first six months of life. We are now offering the following services:
* Comprehensive lactation consultation
* Breastfeeding and bottle feeding therapy
* Pre and post-frenectomy therapy
* Developmental physical therapy
Note: Although we are only taking on new cases under ~6 months, we are continuing to offer ongoing developmental support as needed until your child begins to walk independently.

Transition to Office-Based Visits:

This summer, we transitioned from routine home visits to seeing families (almost) exclusively in our office space located near Kingstowne Town Center in Alexandria, VA. This change allows us to support families more efficiently.

Increasing availability of insurance coverage:

Over the past year we added in network availability with commercial Aetna plans for lactation focused sessions.  Later this month we expect to add in network coverage with United Healthcare.

Stay Connected:

We will always prioritize direct, high-quality support for babies and their families. Families are encouraged to reach out via text or patient portal messaging with questions or concerns.

We are currently updating our website to reflect our current services.
We invite you to visit us at babyptva.com or read our Google reviews to learn more about the experiences of families we have had the pleasure of supporting.

As a small business, I am always so appreciative of families who take the time to share my name with their friends and neighbors or share their their experiences publicly via Google reviews ☺️

More feedback from a sweet family I recently worked with ☺️ I am so grateful a friend referred me to Dr. Allison to address my baby’s torticollis and breast and bottle feeding difficulties. I started taking my baby to Dr. Allison when he was about 6 weeks old and it made the world of a difference in his feeding skills and range of motion/ gross motor skills. As a PT and certified lactation consultant, she addresses all areas (oral musculature motor control/ sucking, muscle tightness and imbalance, gross motor skills, etc that are contributing to difficulties in feeding, which were overlooked beforehand. Taking my baby to his PT appointments was one of my favorite things during the postpartum time because I learned so much from Dr.
Allison each visit (and my baby loved his play time). I highly recommend Dr. Allison if you are having difficulty with breast/ bottle feeding, are concerned about a head preference, or progress with gross motor skills!

July got away from me, but The Baby PT has officially been around for 2 years now! In just the past year we have supported over 150 babies and their families, opened a small home clinic space in Alexandria, Virginia, upgraded Dr. Allison's infant feeding support credentials, and continued to prioritize providing personalized, flexible, holistic support for babies and their families :-)

AKA International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. Although I have been supporting babies through their earliest milestones (including breast and bottle feeding) for years, I finally made the jump to add the gold standard credential to my name :-)

New Google review from such a fun family to work with!!

As an infant physical therapist I get to work with babies on all different early motor milestones, but supporting feeding is always especially fun for me because it can have such a big impact on the whole family!

"I can’t recommend Dr. Allison enough. As a 3rd time mom, I wasn’t even aware that PT was a resource new parents might need- but it has changed our lives (literally!) When I felt hopeless and completely lost as my youngest struggled to eat from bottles and nurse, I was lucky enough to stumble upon her website in the middle of the night while I was spiraling and searching for answers. I left her a message, and she got back to me the very next morning, and we had an appointment scheduled for the next day! With her help and guidance we have completely turned around my daughters feeding abilities. Dr. Allison is gentle, caring, and so knowledgeable- my baby was instantly comfortable being manipulated and stretched, and I as a mom felt so good about our decision to call her! There’s never any pressure if your baby is fussy/ and she builds in time to allow for feedings and changings and all the stressors we as new parents feel when we take our babies to specialists. I cannot stress how wonderful she is, how skilled she is, and I will be singing her praises for life!"

How long will my baby need therapy for torticollis? 🤷‍♀️ This is a question we get asked all the time! Unfortunately, there is no clear cut answer because there are sooooo many variables including: age of referral, severity, parental commitment/compliance, therapist experience and day to day routines. We can tell you what the research says but remember EVERY. BABY. IS. DIFFERENTHere is what the research says about age of referral and average treatment time:

➡ Before 1 month of age: 1.5 months of treatment
➡ 1-3 months at referral: 5.9 months of treatment
➡ 3-6 months at referral: 7.2 months of treatment
➡ 6-12 months at referral- 8.9 months of treatment

(Physical Therapy management of Congenital Muscular Torticollis/Clinical Practice Guidelines)

As demonstrated so clearly here- EARLY INTERVENTION IS KEY! Get your appointment scheduled asap!
