American Counseling Association

American Counseling Association ACA is the world's largest nonprofit association representing professional counselors in various practice settings. There are 20 chartered divisions within ACA.

The American Counseling Association (ACA) is a not-for-profit, professional and educational organization that is dedicated to the growth and enhancement of the counseling profession. These divisions provide leadership, resources and information unique to specialized areas and/or principles of counseling. ACA also has 56 chartered branches in the U.S., Europe, and Latin America. Each spring, ACA holds its annual Conference & Expo offering counseling professionals an opportunity to earn 30+ CEs through a combination of education sessions (typically more than 400 to choose from), and Pre-conference Learning Institutes. Highlights include engaging keynote speakers; an onsite Career Center; the Grad Students & New Professionals Only Series; and the National Awards Ceremony. Call on the Department of Education to formally recognize Counseling Programs as Professional Programs

The Department of Education (ED) is considering significant reductions to federal student loan limits. Under these new limits, counseling students would only be able to borrow $20,500 annually, potentially pushing students toward expensive private lending or discouraging them from entering the profession.

We have submitted a comment to ED urging them to reclassify counseling programs as professional programs. This would give counseling students access to higher student loan limits ($50,000) and recognizes counselors’ enormous contributions to society and their professional expertise. Join us in telling ED that counseling programs are professional programs!

: Among the many exciting things you can expect from ACA in 2026, we are thrilled to be publishing our first children's book in a new series titled, "We All Have SuperPowers!" Authored by Ashley Zomalt and Kacy Brubaker and illustrated by Juliana Castro, this new series is designed for young learners — taking them on everyday adventures that become powerful lessons in empathy, resilience, logic and mindfulness.

The first book, "Captain Emotions and the SuperPower Pack" will be released this summer. Meet the characters and stay tuned for additional updates!
