“It doesn't feel good when they're calling for all the blood they could get... I was terrified."

When Kylie McCullough became a mom last summer, she never imagined her journey would begin with a life-threatening emergency. Complications during childbirth led to severe bleeding, and it was the generosity of blood donors that helped save her life.

Kylie underwent an emergency C-section during the birth of her son, Teddy. Doctors discovered bleeding from her uterine artery, an issue that was initially repaired during surgery. But shortly after, she began hemorrhaging again.

“It’s not knowing if I was going to wake up," she said. Kylie was rushed back into surgery and received a massive transfusion — blood from people she’ll never meet. “Without those blood donors, I wouldn’t be here.”

Now healthy at home in Breinigsville, PA, Kylie is determined to pay it forward. She recently hosted a blood drive at the American Red Cross Pennsylvania Rivers Chapter in Allentown, joined by friends, family, and neighbors to help others in need.

“You hear that it’s important to donate blood, but you don’t understand the impact until you need it,” she said. “I can’t thank them enough, but I’m never going to know who they were. I’m very thankful that they took time out of their day to donate blood.”

Conditions like postpartum hemorrhage — excessive bleeding after childbirth — can be deadly without urgent transfusions. Every donation helps save lives. Make your appointment to give today. ❤️

The American Red Cross is taking a transformative approach to the health and well-being of military and veteran communities by focusing on the whole health of each person.

Whole health centers around what matters to a person, not what is the matter with them. It’s about helping service members, veterans and their families thrive — during and after their service.

That’s why the Red Cross offers a variety of free, in-person and virtual workshops designed to support the entire military family. Programs like Reconnection Workshops and Mind-Body Workshops offer practical tools to improve communication, navigate challenges and manage stress.

To learn more or schedule a workshop, visit redcross.org and enter your zip code under “Local Red Cross.”

Dale Hill (left) didn't spend his birthday at home this year — he spent it on deployment in New Mexico. A Red Cross volunteer from Carlisle, he's helping families impacted by ongoing flooding in the region.

Dale serves as a transportation manager, coordinating trucks, emergency response vehicles, and rentals to ensure operations run smoothly. With a dozen deployments under his belt, he's done it all: sheltering, logistics and driving emergency response vehicles.

His commitment to service spans decades. Before joining the Red Cross in 1988, Dale served in both the U.S. Air Force and Army Reserves, including deployments to Vietnam, Desert Storm, and Iraq. That same spirit of service continues today.

“It’s gratifying and humbling,” he says. “Volunteering makes me feel alive.”

Now marking his 78th birthday on deployment, he's focusing on supporting in administrative roles.

"It feels amazing to be able to continue to do this," Dale says. "I'll continue to do this as long as I am an asset to the disaster recovery."

Dale also shared his gratitude to his employer at the Carlisle Barracks, who adjusts staffing so Dale can deploy to make a difference.

Thank you, Dale, for showing us what lifelong service truly looks like. ❤️

🚌 BACK TO SCHOOL SAFETY REMINDER 🚌
As kids head back to the classroom, here are key safety tips:

👶 For younger students: Teach them their phone number, address, and how to call 911
🚶‍♀️ Walking to school: Use sidewalks, look both ways, cross at corners only
🚌 Bus riders: Get to the stop early, stay visible to the driver, never walk behind the bus
🚴‍♂️ Bike riders: Always wear a helmet and ride with traffic
🚗 Parents driving: Seat belts for everyone, car seats/boosters for younger kids
📱 Teen drivers: No texting while driving, buckle up always
⚽ Student athletes: Wear protective gear and know where first aid kits are located
🚨 DRIVERS: When you see a school bus with flashing red lights and stop sign extended - STOP! This means children are getting on or off. Don't move until lights stop flashing and kids reach safety.

Let's work together to keep our kids safe! Share to spread awareness.
