Keep it clean. Gently clean the skin around the button daily with mild soap and water.

Check for signs of infection. Look for redness, oozing, or soreness around the site, and contact your care team if you notice anything unusual.

Protect your skin. Make sure the area stays clean and dry between washes to prevent irritation.

Feeding & Medicine

Flush the line. Before and after each feed or medication, flush the tube with warm water to keep it clear and working properly.

Involve your loved ones. For caregivers, encourage your loved one to push the pump buttons or flush water to keep them engaged in their care.

Troubleshooting & Support

Be prepared. Always keep a spare replacement button of the same size at home in case of emergencies.

Secure the device. Use products like a "Button Huggie" to gently keep the device in place and prevent irritation.

🌬️ Panic is normal – focus on your exhale. Let the machine help you.

🧼 Suctioning is quick (15 secs of discomfort → big relief after).

🛏️ Let staff reposition you – it prevents pneumonia.

🗣️ Ask about a speaking valve (Passy-Muir) to talk while on the vent.

📝 Every day, ask: “What's the weaning plan?” & “Can we try a breathing trial?”

🚨 Signal help if: alarms sound, you see blood in tubing, or air leaks.

📱 Family: Bring a communication board, play calm music, and keep a diary.
