Kreins Psychological Services

Kreins Psychological Services offers therapy and assessment services for a variety of issues. In her clinical practice, Amy Kreins, PhD, delivers cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and other evidence-based treatments to adult, seniors, adolescents, and children with a wide range of emotional, behavioral, and adjustment problems, such as anxiety, stress, depression, and relationship problems.

She tries to build on an individual's strengths and individualize therapy to each person's need. She believes that psychotherapy can help individuals most effectively use their resources to increase self-understanding, to improve decision-making, to solve problems, and to create paths to the lives they want. She also uses mindfulness training to help her clients live in the moment. Her approach is compassionate and nonjudgmental. Dr. Kreins completed her Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Health Psychology at the California School of Professional Psychology in Fresno, CA. She completed her predoctoral internship at Virginia Tech's Cook Counseling Center and her postdoctoral fellowship at UC-Santa Cruz's Student Counseling Center. She grew up in northwest New Jersey and graduated Cum Laude, In Honors from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA in 1993 with a B.S. in Psychology. She is a member of the Collin County Psychological Association and the Dallas Psychological Association. Dr. Kreins has been worked with geriatrics in the DFW area for the last 12 years. She also has been in private practice for two years. She has taught workshops on eating disorders, body image, stress management, dementia, and depression. Amy volunteers her time at her local PTAs, supporting greyhound rescue, and her children's sporting events. Her passions include traveling, reading, and spending time with her husband and two boys.

Operating as usual

[07/02/20]   Kreins Psychological Services will be opening its practice to in-person appointments starting July 1, 2020. We understand there is a need for in-person therapy sessions, but we will be requiring precautions to keep the psychologists and clients safe during this worldwide pandemic.

The following are safety measures we will be implementing:

-Both the therapist and the client will be required to wear a mask. If you do not have one, we will provide one for you.
-All surfaces (inducing the couch which is covered in plastic) will be wiped down between sessions. A disinfectant spay will also be used to spray the air.
-We will be taking temperatures with an infrared, non-contact thermometer. If you have a fever, you will be asked to reschedule. This will also apply to the therapists.
-Please stay home if you are sick. We will be doing the same.
-We ask that you sit at the far end of the couch, to ensure a six-foot distance from the therapist.
-There will be a HEPA air purifier running in the office at all times.
-We will not be providing any handshakes or hugs.
-We will open and close any doors.

Even with these measures, we cannot ensure that our environment is COVID-19 free. Please proceed at your own risk and with your best judgement.

We will still be providing telehealth (video) sessions for those who prefer or require this. At this time, Medicare is covering telehealth for all participants indefinitely. BCBS is covering it for everyone until July 31, 2020. This may be extended for some BCBS plans. Please call and check with your individual plan.

Celebrate Calm

I am not responsible for fixing everything for my kids. I am not responsible for their happiness.

You're bored? Okay. Fine. That must stink. What are YOU going to do about YOUR boredom? Your brother is irritating? Well, welcome to life. People are irritating. What are YOU going to do so that you can enjoy your day even when other people don't do what you want them to do? Instead of controlling your brother, what can you do to control your own reaction?

I am here to give you tools, to teach you, to model self-control. But I am not here to make sure everything goes perfectly and solve every problem--real or perceived--that you have.

If you want to whine, complain and have me fix your problems, you've come to the wrong place. But if you are ready to problem solve and work on controlling yourself, I am fully on board and will give you my energy.
