A huge thanks goes out to our local Chevy dealer! Thank you, Cliff Anschuetz Chevrolet, from the bottom of our skates (and hearts 💚🤍). This year, every team will have an EMT bag equipped to handle on ice emergencies. Thank you for caring about our community and helping to keep our kids safe!

This chill in the air means autumn is here. So glad we had the chance to help out the Alpena Hockey Association with some EMT packs for Northern Lights Arena Community.

❄️ CLARIFICATION POST: WHO’S WHO AT NORTHERN LIGHTS ARENA 🏒

We’ve had a few questions lately about how things work at Northern Lights Arena (NLA) — so let’s clear it up!

🏟️ Northern Lights Arena (NLA)
NLA is owned by Alpena County and operated by Alpena Rink Management, LLC. Their main focus is maintaining the facility in a profitable and accessible way for the community. They sell ice time (and floor time) to user groups — including AHA, the Blue Line Club, and many others.

🏒 Alpena Hockey Association (AHA)
AHA is a non-profit, volunteer run, community based youth recreational hockey association. We buy ice time from NLA for our players and teams — we do not operate or manage the arena. Our job is to promote and organize youth hockey programs, schedule practices and games, and get kids on the ice in the Alpena Community!

💚 Blue Line Club
The Blue Line Club is another user group within NLA. Their mission is to promote, sponsor, and support hockey at the HIGH SCHOOL level — specifically Alpena Wildcat Hockey.

Alpena Wildcat Hockey

Shipwreck Alley Rollers (Women’s Roller Derby)

Each of these groups purchases ice time from Northern Lights Arena to support their own programs and activities.

So while we all share the same ice, each group has its own purpose and leadership — working together to make NLA a busy, thriving home for our community’s ice sports! 💚🤍

AHA offers a dedicated Goalie Skate led by Marco Wieser, former goaltender for the Alpena Ice Diggers!

Goalies get specialized training focused on positioning, puck tracking, and balance — all designed to build confidence and skill between the pipes.

🗓 Mondays, 6:10–7:00 PM
📍 Puddle Rink – Northern Lights Arena

These sessions are open to all current AHA goalies and U8 players interested in becoming goalies.

The IIHF World Girls’ Ice Hockey Weekend is happening October 17–19, 2025, marking its 14th year of celebrating girls and women in hockey around the globe! 🌎✨

Here in Alpena, AHA is proud to have over 40 girls registered this season — representing several divisions and our Thunder Bay Warriors! 🙌

Let’s take this weekend to celebrate all the amazing girls who lace up their skates, hit the ice, and inspire the next generation of hockey players! 🏒💫

👻 10U Travel — Battling it out at the Boo in the Soo
⚡️ U12/U14 Thunder Bay Warriors — On the road in Traverse City on Saturday, then back home at Northern Lights Arena for games on Sunday at 10:00 AM & 2:00 PM!

🏒 RINK RULES REMINDER 🏒

The Alpena Hockey Association (AHA) abides by the rules and codes of conduct set forth by USA Hockey, MAHA (Michigan Amateur Hockey Association), and Northern Lights Arena, as well as any other rinks we visit throughout the season.

All parents, spectators, coaches, and players are expected to follow these rules to help ensure a safe, respectful, and fun hockey environment for everyone.

🟢 Northern Lights Arena Highlights:

🚫 No horseplay

🚫 No abusive or obscene gestures or language

🚫 No food or drink on the ice

🚫 No stick play anywhere in the building (except on ice)

📵 No cell phones in the locker rooms (also a USA Hockey & MAHA rule)

⚪ USA Hockey Highlights:

Promote sportsmanship and fair play

Treat everyone — coaches, teammates, opponents, and officials — with respect

Refrain from vulgar, abusive, or threatening language or behavior

Follow all USA Hockey rules and regulations

Take all roles and duties seriously and act professionally

Help create a safe and fun environment for all participants

🟢 MAHA Highlights:

Encourage good sportsmanship — support your child and their team respectfully

Respect the game — no profanity, taunting, or throwing objects

Trust officials and coaches — avoid public criticism

Let the children play — remember, it’s their game

Respect privacy — no cell phones or recording devices in locker rooms
