The intent of the Pennies for Panzi Campaign is to raise money for and awareness about the children of the Aire de Jeux. The Aire de Jeux is a space where the children of rape survivors spend their days while their mothers are healing at Panzi Hospital. Through fund raising and awareness raising, the Aire de Jeux needs to become a comprehensive day care facility that can accomodate 30 children. Th
ere are short term and long term needs which the funds that are raised will address such as medical care, food, shoes, books, a Congolese teacher, uniforms, etc. Ways people can fundraise are to collect change, sell Pennies for Panzi t-shirts, make the Penny Promise (donating 300 pennies a month), have a Penny Parade (an organized walk to raise awareness about the DRC), Penny Competitions (classrooms compete for who raises the most change), have teams go out into the city and find change on the ground. I think this campaig is an excellent way for students and people of all ages to learn more about the current situation in the DRC and help the children of the Aire de Jeux recieve education, medical care and hope for the future.
