Weight Loss Resistance (Hormonal Imbalances)
Weight loss resistance and hormone problems have become a new epidemic in today’s society. This epidemic boils down to cellular inflammation, which is caused by toxins. This is the reason most people don’t feel well.
The answer that most doctors provide today for hormone problems is prescribing more hormones, but this solution does not make sense. Since the issue is cellular inflammation, the focus must be on removing toxins from the cell to get well. Let’s look at two hormones, in particular, thyroid and insulin. We are using these hormones as examples because thyroid problems and Type-2 diabetes are two significant, growing problems today, and both cause weight loss resistance. Since we are looking at weight loss resistance, we will also talk about the hormone leptin. This is the hormone that signals to the brain to use stored fat for energy.
In looking at the cells, each cell has thousands, maybe millions of receptors. When hormones come in contact with these receptors, they bring a message into the cell. They can bring a message into the cell’s DNA, and then that nucleus in the DNA starts to make other hormones and other chemicals that we need to feel well.
For example, when thyroid hormone connects with the cell and brings its message into the cell, we have good energy, burn fat efficiently, and feel good. If the thyroid hormone is unable to connect to the cell’s receptors, the message cannot get into the cell, resulting in low-energy, weight-loss resistance, and feeling unwell.
We can give our bodies all the synthetic thyroid hormones we want, but if they cannot connect to our cells’ receptors and deliver their message into the cells, we will continue to have problems. The same is said for insulin. A Type-2 diabetic has plenty of insulin; insulin is certainly not the problem here. The problem is that the cell can’t hear the insulin, so not enough glucose makes its way into the cell, robbing the Type-2 diabetic of energy.
Leptin is the hormone that tells the brain to use its fat, so imagine if that hormone is blocked from getting its message into the cell. What happens? We will not be able to lose weight despite what we eat or how much we exercise.
Here is the real problem: Cellular inflammation. Inflammation is at the root of many chronic and life-threatening diseases, including diabetes, thyroid problems, cancer, the list goes on and on. We are not talking about a sore shoulder or a sore knee, although that is inflammation, but about systemic inflammation in the cells of the body. This inflammation, in particular, is on the membrane of the cell and it blunts or blocks the cell’s receptors, rendering it unable to hear the messages from thyroid, insulin, or leptin hormones. That is the epidemic; that’s the problem.
Consider this analogy when viewing the typical solution of prescribing more hormones for thyroid issues, Type-2 diabetes, and weight loss resistance: When a parent shouts at their kids, it works in the beginning. So, does giving hormones. By taking more thyroid hormone, or by taking more of this hormone or that, more estrogen, more testosterone - yes, it works in the beginning; it gets the message across. What happens when the parent continues shouting at their kids? They stop listening, or they become less and less sensitive to what the parent is saying. The same happens with hormones. We keep giving hormones and the cell literally becomes deaf to the hormones. If the parent begins to whisper at their children, they will begin to listen. Reduce the inflammation and the cells will hear the messages from our hormones.
There are three major causes of inflammation:
Glucose
Bad fats &
Toxins.
We must control glucose, which is why we encourage our clients to exchange their grains for others or get rid of them completely. All of the sugars and sweeteners that are in so many foods are driving inflammation and must be removed.
Bad fats are creating cellular inflammation. It is not the cholesterol or saturated fats, but the manufactured fats like vegetable oil that are the villains here. The biggest source of inflammation, and the hidden one is toxins.
In no time ever in the history of man have we been exposed to the type of toxins that drive cellular inflammation more than now. Glyphosate is the #1 herbicide used so it is in all of the foods we’re eating. It causes leaky gut, but it is also driving cellular inflammation. Lead and mercury are two common hidden toxins that are inflaming the cells. Even cosmetics that contain BPA not only drive cellular inflammation but can change our genes and turn on bad genes - even obesity genes. A Stanford University study exposed identical twin mice to certain toxins, and those toxins actually turned on the obesity gene in these mice. It did not matter what they ate or how much they exercised; the mice could not lose weight.
Weight loss resistance and hormonal imbalance is actually hormone resistance, and this is why people don’t feel well. When the cell is not hearing any of these hormones, giving more hormones just does not work. The idea is we have to reduce the inflammation. Making dietary changes and re-establishing methylation will detox the cell, changing the DNA back, and turning off those obesity genes or those genes that are a trigger. Once the cellular membrane is repaired, inflammation is reduced, and we can now get the toxins out and get the good stuff in. The hormones can now start to communicate with the cell again, and one will feel well.
