The word Aurelia is related to the word chrysalis…

A chrysalis is a safe space for transformation. My mission as an educator is to provide you with this safe space as you transform into the parents you want to be. A safe space that is filled with education, resources, community, and of course, fun!

A safe space where you get to find what works for you and your family, because we’re all different and that’s the level of support you deserve…

After working as a midwife for many years, I met several families who felt like the educational and preparation resources available to them were dry, outdated and boring. They’d rather have DIY’d their journey, and this is where I wanted to change the game!

Feeling confident and supported in birth and postpartum isn’t an option or luxury in my eyes, it’s essential. I’d love to have you in my upcoming class - The Fourth Trimester - as we prepare for the inner and outer journey of postpartum.

Knowing how to spot hunger in your baby can mean less fussy moments and easier latches

One thing many parents are surprised to find is that their baby has early AND late signs of hunger. The goal is to notice and respond to the earlier signs to prevent stress in baby. I like to apply it to our own experience with hunger…

Maybe when you’re first hungry you’re able to think clearly about what you might want and function well enough to get your food and settle, but when you get SUPER hungry, chances are you’re scrambled, “hangry” and just ready to eat anything!

Feeding can be a peaceful and joyful experience for you and your baby, whether it’s with a breast or a bottle.

I’m ready to teach you how in my upcoming Fourth Trimester course! Class is on 3/9- I’d love to have you! Click the link in my bio to grab your spot!

And THIS is the power of your “no” in postpartum!

Saying no can be hard, but you and your baby are not museum exhibits. You’re human beings with needs….a lot of needs during the postpartum period! Your community should be here to support you not drain you, and it’s up to you to set the tone!

Uncle Jimmy with the cough can wait until he’s feeling better to come over. Aunt Laura who doesn’t typically respect your needs probably isn’t the best to invite over before 6 weeks. It is your body and your baby, you get to decide what happens here!

I know this conversation can bring up a lot of fears and emotions. But your peace is worth it. Your healing is worth it. You, my dear, are worth it!

If you’re wanting some help to build a unique plan for having visitors postpartum, that is one of the many things we will be doing in The Fourth Trimester course next month! Grab your ticket at the link in my bio, or DM me with your questions!

The parts of postpartum no one talks about…

Because unexpected tear filled moments aren’t the cutest, sweetest, or most fun parts. Approximately 4 out of 5 women experience postpartum baby blues. So it’s a conversation worth having before and after baby comes home.

We’re so used to daily life that when these experiences come postpartum, they can be a little shocking and confusing, bringing up thoughts like “why can’t I just get it together?”

The key to coping with and getting through the baby blues is being informed on the experience so you can identify it when it comes, prepare a supportive postpartum environment during pregnancy, and give yourself so much grace!

I’m teaching my students all of this and more in my upcoming course - The Fourth Trimester! It’s on 3/10 and only a few spots are left. I’d love to have you join - link in bio to grab your spot!

Say it louder for the mamas in the back!

Postpartum is so easy to look past - as if it will figure itself out. So many mothers forget to take into account how much rest they’ll need, how much food they’ll need and how much help they’ll need from others…
And I get it - relying on others can be super uncomfortable, especially for those of you who have spent years in your career and being self dependent. But that doesn’t change the fact that you’ll need it for this period. So here’s what I recommend doing!

Plan for these changes the best you can. How can you set yourself up for success?
Have conversations with your loved ones about what to expect from you. How can you anticipate your needs?
Start practicing self love and grace now. It will carry you so far in this coming season!

And most importantly - grab your spot for my upcoming Fourth Trimester Course! You’ll leave with the education and plans it takes to have a successful postpartum, whatever that looks like for you. Link in bio to sign up!

You know the old saying “knowledge is power”?

Let me share with you why this matters for your birth! It goes like this…

If your provider brings up induction, and it’s not something you’ve thought about or talked about before, you might have a hard time choosing which method of induction is best, or if you want to do it at all.

On the other hand, if your provider brings up induction and you’re aware of what options you have, the pros and cons to them and how induction works, then you’re more likely to feel empowered in your decision making.

Being able to know and articulate what you want is an essential piece to your most empowered birth! It’s my goal to equip my students with the knowledge and tools they need to achieve this.

My next birth class in Ames is coming up on 2/10! Will you be there? Spots are limited, link in bio to grab yours!

This is always my favorite part of class…

Building a birth plan involves taking all of your do’s, don’ts and wishes, and putting them into a document that you will bring to your birth space. Here’s some examples of what would be included:
Maybe you’d like to have immediate skin to skin with your baby
Maybe you don’t want extra drugs for relaxation
Maybe you want delayed cord clamping

Whatever it is, it’s important to make your care providers aware of your desires and boundaries! Part of our birth class is going through all of the options for birth and postpartum and building this birth plan together using informed decision making. Parents often feel empowered and more excited for the big day after doing this, it’s a beautiful thing!

If you don’t have your birth plan yet and you’d like to build yours, make sure to join us for childbirth education on 2/10! The link is in my bio!

Beyond my years of public health education and midwifery, I’ve been there too.

Nothing has taught me more than walking my own path of motherhood. Really living the experience for myself, this is what I lean on most when guiding other families on their unique path.

I’ve been in the sleepless nights, the days spent breastfeeding, the new parent fears and endless questions. I’ve been there, and I needed the same type of customized support and community that you do. It’s what every mom needs…

My classes are made to fit your needs, you don’t want to miss this opportunity to prepare for birth and build community! Click the link in my bio to grab your spot.
