Oak Lane Candle Co.

Who we are: Oak Lake Candle Co. is a natural, eco-friendly soy wax candle shop located in the heart of Ames, Iowa. We use all natural soy wax so you can be sure that your burn is clean and natural. Soy wax burns cleaner and longer than regular candles and is produced by American farmers. We use phthalate-free fragrance in all of our candles and a lead-free wick.

In 2014 my husband and I started an adoption process of (what would be) adopting our son and daughter from Uganda. With such a large sum of money to raise at a small amount of time, I thought of trying something I had always wanted to try as a hobby; candle making. I researched and tested and after countless hours, wax, wicks, and fragrances, I eventually found the perfect candle. These candles helped us raise the money to finish our adoption process and in March of 2017, we brought them home. The passion for creating candles has stuck with me, and here we are!

The Candle: Our 9 oz. and 16 oz. candles have a sleek, straight jar with a white tin lid. 9 oz. candles have a burn time of 40-60 hours and 16 oz. have a burn time of 80-120 hours, when properly maintained. Trim your wick to ¼ inch prior to every single burn. This ensures proper burning. The first time you burn your candle, burn it for a few hours, no more than four. Soy wax has a memory, so the first burn is important in making sure you have a proper melting pool. Soy wax has a very natural look and may develop frosting. This is the nature of soy candles and will not affect the burning or scent.
